I don't like this new Jake. I don't really like the character of Jake before, but I liked J. Eddie Peck last time around. I was prepared to like Ricky Paul Goldin in the role. I've read over and over how beloved he was on GL and what a good actor, etc. Well so far I'm not impressed. I sure don't buy him as a selfless doctor. His Jake seems more like a frat boy. I liked Peck's chemistry with Rebecca Budig but I detected zero chemistry between Goldin and Budig today. I hope it gets better.
I've been guilty of making snap judgements a number of times when a new actor comes aboard. Like with the NuColby. I immediately didn't like her and thought that she's not a good actress.
When I first started watching GL a few years ago (which I no longer do), I thought what's the big deal over RPG and why is he on so much? Well, he started to grow on me and I started to look forward to seeing him. I saw how versatile he was. He could do serious scenes, love scenes,angry scenes, lighthearted scenes and sick in a hospital bed scenes all with equal ease and all with having chemistry with the other actors.
So far all all he's done is whine, but once he gets more to do maybe you'll change your mind. Like everyone else, he can occasionally chew the scenery, but he can also be very subtle, excellent and entertaining. I do hope that he does more of the latter and less of the former.
