Additional Comments: I cannot stand to watch ANOTHER Kendall and Zack breakup.  Also, I'm weaning myself off this board.  This show should be cancelled it has gotton SO CRAPPY IMHO.

I stopped watching long ago but "peeked in" when Darnell came back as Jesse -- but lo and behold, they ruined another beloved character return too.  The show is unwatchable and unentertaining.  I doubt the move to LA will change anything for the better.

I will turn it on and go into the other room to the computer. I can't bear to watch it or not to watch it! A far cry from the glory days of yore.

I started watching AMC in '82. I got hooked right away. I taped it everyday while I was in school. I would come home do my homework and watch. My mom and I loved this show. I remember after nearly every episode I would say..wow I can not wait until tomorrow or can not wait until Monday to see what happens.

I don't think I could ever stop watching. Yes, I do not tune in everyday but it is just a habit that I need to watch it. When I had my son in June of 2007, I was so bored of it and did not watch it for awhile until I think it was when Angie and Jessie came back. I really do hope that when they move to LA it gets better.

I have watched since the very first show in 1970, just brought my first daughter home from the Hosp. I loved AMC, and it became sort of a extended family to me, at family reunions cousins would laugh and talk about Erica (we were all around the same age), Mona and the rest. If we hadn't seen each other in years we all had something to say about AMC. Now most don't even watch anymore, I really miss the old show, we would get mad at some of the characters but they always redeemed themselves, but now I see no way they can ever do that, too much evil to ever be forgiven. Very sad, Thanks alot Pratt for ruining my other family, turning them into murderers, liars, evil doers and basically all creeps.

I know exactly how you feel. AMC has only one supercouple left:  Zendall. It's bad enough that TIIC are about to lose that potential gold mine---Thorsten and maybe Alicia too--- because of the stupid decision to go west. But what's even worse, they're ruining Thorsten's final days on the show by not reuniting Zach and Kendall A.S.A.P. Who wants to see Aiden acting this way? Who will enjoy the scene where Zach witnesses a (drugged) Kendall supposedly committing adultery yet again? Nobody wants to see this. Let Kendall and Zach reunite, grab their two boys and go on the run together. THAT would be a suitably romantic ending to their story, but not this. Pratt seems determined to destroy the one magical pairing that AMC has had in a long, long time...

LadyM, I've been watching this show since the early 1970's, if you can imagine such a thing. Richard Nixon was still in the White House, and Erica Kane was a student at Pine Valley High, back when I first tuned in!  And ever since then I've stuck with AMC through all its ups and downs. I loved it in the 70's because of the magnificent Phoebe Tyler and her niece Brooke, because of Erica and Nick Davis and long-suffering Mona Kane, because of Billy Clyde Tuggle and his antics, because of the very charming Mark Dalton. Then came the Reagan years when I enjoyed Tad the Cad Martin and the next generation of high school kids: Jenny and Greg and Liza, Jesse and Angie. I enjoyed watching Erica's blossoming career and her multiple marriages. And Adam Chandler. And Dixie Cooney. And then in the 1990's we had Trevor's romance with Natalie...Dimitri and the Wildwind gang...Hayley's early adventures...the Noah/Julia Story...all sorts of good stuff!

Once Disney appropriated the ABC lineup the quality of AMC---and of ALL the daytime shows---began to decline. Terrible decisions were made, such as the conversion of Tad into a sick killer and the murder of Dixie. Notwithstanding I stuck with AMC because it still had much to offer: Erica's relationship with her daughters...the Kendall/Bianca sisterly bond...Kendall's turbulent love life...Bianca's coming out...the Greenlee/Leo Story...the deliciously wicked David Hayward...JR's struggle with his family birthright and his alcoholism...the Erica/Jack Saga. AMC wasn't as well written as in past decades, but there was still enough decent material to keep me hooked.

But when Charles Pratt took over as headwriter the show went into a downward spiral, worse than anything I've ever seen before. Kendall became a brain-dead adulteress. And Bianca secretly became pregnant with Zach's child, a decision that pretty much ruined her, Binks,  as the symbol of purity and integrity that she used to be. Now Amanda has ruined her marriage to Jake by sleeping with David. Erica has dumped "soul mate" Jack for no apparent reason. Ryan has likewise ruined his "great love" for Greenlee by boinking Greenlee's killer just hours after Greenlee supposedly died. Adam Chandler has killed his beloved twin brother and is letting someone else take the fall. David, though admittedly never a nice guy, has recently sunk to new lows,  drugging Adam and torturing Amanda. Jesse, once a man of integrity, has become a crooked cop who hides evidence and indulges in elaborate cover-ups. And the Witch Hunters---Erica, Ryan, Zach and Ryan---have persecuted the town pariah (Annie), trying to make her confess to something she didn't do! Pine Valley has become a town of freaks and monsters.

Enough said. Charles Pratt's speciality seems to be the ruining of beloved characters. If long-term viewers like you are tuning out, it's because you can't bear to watch the deconstruction of a once-great soap. I don't blame you. I myself will probably continue to watch, but that's only because I'm addicted. Pity me!

  • well said...I've watched since 1979 with a few breaks during really bad writing times...I'm staying with it now hoping things will improve once the writers can write out the actors who are not going or being asked to go to LA and start new stories for those going...but it's so badly done...shamefully done in fact...you would think skilled, well paid writers could do better than this even on the fly! My biggest disappointment in all of this is the Adam/Stuart storyline and I assume the ultimate end of Adam based upon board people saying David Canary is going to fill out his contract then leave---I was so relieved to see his name on the list going to LA...then a couple of weeks ago someone said this about his leaving and I was crushed. Whatta' mess..whatta' disappointment...it's all been hard to take. I don't watch due to addiction....I watch due to hope! Silly me. SORAS
  • Bravo, Understatement! And reading your post was a quick little trot through time - thanks for that! Remember ''back in the day'' when the characters lived in homes like yours and mine, and everyone in Pine Valley was not some rich powerful mogul? That's what made it so appealing - the people were like you and me. Regular homes, regular kids, regular jobs.... I miss that. ~Ginger Grant
  • Understatement, I could read your posts like a good novel. You are my soulmate in everything you are thinking and writing (not to mention your perfect spelling and grammar!!!) - kudos to you and I feel the same way!!
  • I believe you are the very first to so eloquently convey my exact feelings about ''today's'' AMC (I've watched since 1970) ...Sad, isn' t it?...it's like watching a beloved family member decline//ec
