I like Julia and hate to see her go.
Killing her off seems less of a risk to the writers than some of the others they've killed off.
She has no family left in town and if they ever do want to bring some Santos back there are others.
I think the story stinks for Kathy though.
I agree, every time they kill some one off they try to appease us later by bringing them back as a goofy ghost. We the fans are never happy with these ghosts, you can't get attached to them because they wont be around for long. They are usually trying to start trouble and aggitate people. Bring back ghosts that we can appreciate. Dr Madden for one. How about Cindy for Stuart, I wouldn't mind seeing Edmond for a while, he could haunt Ryan since Jonathan is gone. Jillian for Ryan, she could give all Ryan's groupies a hard time. There are lots of possibilities, AMC could change the name to "The Ghost Returns" or "Out of the Past" .
During her most recent stint on AMC, Nurse Julia has been given little to do, other than cuddle with Jamie in the linen closet and more recently, have a few brief scenes as Kathy's adoptive mom. Such a waste of talent! Considering what a good actress Sydney Penney is, it seems a shame not to have utilized her more.
And back in the day, Julia Santos used to be an interesting, complex character in her own right. I can remember her as a troubled teen, and the early days at Wildwind when she had a big crush on Dimitri's son Anton. She and Kendall were bitter enemies back then, though you'd never guess it to see their lacklustre interaction today. And then there was her relationship with big sister Maria, brother Mateo, and the overprotective parents, Hector and Isabella.
Back in the 90's Julia always held her own. She was a viable young heroine. But her big storyline came when she was scarred, after flying shards from a falling chandelier struck her face. Hating the way she looked, she ran away to the "wrong" side of town--- Front Street---where she met her soul mate, Noah Keefer. That was such a wonderful pairing. The two actors had great chemistry together, and before long Julia and Noah were an AMC supercouple. Their eventual departure----to go into the witness protection program---was sad day for all the fans. Which is why, initially, I was delighted to hear that Julia was coming back, even as a young widow mourning Noah's death.
Problem was, her return was badly bungled. Julia came back embittered, and once she'd worked that problem through, tptb didn't seem to know what else to do with her. Oh yeah...she bedded Jamie, who was at least a decade younger than herself. And then she adopted Kathy. Okay, so what else? Not much. She all but disappeared from the canvas. And it's even sadder to see her being killed off now, simply as a plot device. Why even bother to bring back a popular actress like Sydney Penney, unless there's a well-written storyline waiting for her to play out? And similarly, why bring back Cady McClain's Dixie as a GHOST, when all the fans wanted her back ALIVE??? When good writing and good SENSE ain't there, the good actress---whether it be Julia or Cady or anyone else----is just being wasted.
