Subject: That's right! Maria did have a fling with ol' Fish 'n Chips when she first returned with amnesia. Because of her memory loss, that storyline was (almost) palatable. But her betrayal of Edmund when he was paralyzed REALLY deconstructed Maria, turning her from saint to sinner. I don't mind naughty behavior usually----this IS a soap, after all!---but considering that poor Edmund became a paraplegic while taking a bullet for her, Maria's morals really took a nosedive on that one. She lost her integrity, while at the same time Edmund lost his famed sense of humor. By the time McTavish was done with these 2 characters, they in no way resembled the people that they had once been. Understatement

Subject: I remember that fiasco, too. I hated what was done to Edmund. Everyone was ruined, Zach was nauseating with his obsession with Maureen aka Maria and a stupid painting of a cottage (?) that was 'their'' lovenest. Even David got in on the massacre, as the doctor who nursed her back to health in some convoluted cockamanie way for some idiotic reason. The only one to come away unscathed was this red headed Australian gal who was also a spy, but she got killed and later turned up on Lost (I can't wait!!!!)/ Cookie
