Topic: So You Think You Can Dance - Results 6/19/08

Additional Comments:

A full couple went last week so no new hook-ups. Will that happen again? I think it might.

Fab opening song choreographed by Shane Sparks. Powerful and I bet this draws them all closer as a group. All excelled. Who was that upside down...Matt? Mark or Thane? I think it was Thane but couldn't tell - cute bit with Cat who looked lovely as usual.

As she intoduces the judges and the camera goes to Mia - my husband says thanks for dressing! Hah - she is also a slob (can you tell I'm not a fan?)

We get right to the results:
Katee/Joshua: SAFE (no surprise)

Kherington/Twitch: SAFE, no thanks to Mia (we see the choreographer hug them)

Chelsea/Thane: NOT SAFE (both have the capability of saving themselves in solo)

Chelsia/Mark: SAFE (Mia at work. Not that they don't deserve it but she broadcasts her favorites and that can cost them votes if it's perceived as unfair)

Khourtni/Matt SAFE

Jessica/Will: SAFE (she says she is partnered with a geius - I was concerned for them but voters got it right although she is SO NOT on a par with him)

Susie/Marquis: NOT SAFE (this was no surprise - 1st week was great and second mediocre to the judges. I agreed about him but hope they give her at least one more chance to shine)

Courtney/Gev: SAFE (so pleased - loved them this week)

Comfort/Chris: (loved GREEN Nigel) they are so mismatched and are NOT SAFE.

Cat is in everyone's corner. There should be a special Emmy just for her.

Tim the Flamenco dancer??? Was he hot or what? WOOF!!! All aboard the hot tamale train!!

Solos:
Chelsea - proved she should stay
Thane - strong technique and unreal leaps!
Susie - where has this power been - I fear this is it. Sigh.
Marquis - a lot of energy but he tried too hard.
Comfort: she is a great popper!!
Chris - he's good but can be limited and can't do it all (dance w/emotion). Cat has sign from the audience that says [Chris] - He is not a tree!

Special Guest: Flo Rida (get it? Florida??, lol). Loved the opening number, which was theirs. He should hire Comfort but this did nothing for me at all.

Nigel speaks - tells the bottom dancers you can fail and still be great dancers. You can leave tonight and be a brilliant dancer.

Girl going home: Normally Nigel says if it was unanimous but he didn't have to here. His words spoke volumes to me. Susie is going home. As Susie thanks the judges for the opportunity Mary and Nigel smile at her and Mia looks down at the desk.

Boy going home: Nigel DOES state it was unanimous. Marquis is gone. I do agree that he isn't as seasoned as the others.

We lose another full couple so NO changes. I do think that Susie and Marquis' routine was out of both their comfort zones and possibly harder for them than the others who almost all had at least one member of the team IN their comfort zone. Wish that had been recognized.

I have watched most of the shows, but seem to have missed something. What does Mia (?) have against Susie the Salsa Dancer? Wasn't she a judge that voted her into the Top 20?

Thanks!

  • Mia changes like the wind, imo. Susie did need to show more but I felt Mia looking down was telling. Not sure if Comfort will last but I felt it might have been between her and Susie and the opening # showed her comfort zone style - which I think Mia prefers. Susie's solo was fine but too late.eom/WE

I can't believe I made it in here this early. I guess it makes up for posting last week's topics and last night's so much later. Glad you are back too. Haven't see you for awhile until Monday's post. As always, a great recap, WE!

I enjoyed the show, except for Flo rida. That opening number was awesome! At first I didn't see the girls come on and suddenly they were there. I had to see the video over to see where they came from. That was a great number with a great ending. At first I thought Cat was going to jump over Thayne but realized her tight dress wouldn't let her. Neither would those heels! Got a kick out of her tickle.

The solos were good and it seemed like everyone DID "dance for their lives" but I guess the right couple went home. It was interesting that it was another complete couple too. I don't remember from other seasons but did complete couples go this much before? I always thought it was one from this couple and one from another so we get new pairings. Isn't that the only way there are new pairings or do they change them part way through?

I like the dances for the last two weeks but nothing has hit me big, yet. Nothing stands out. I think that will come when we get better pairing and as the dancers improve. Great show, otherwise!

  • I was wondering if you were watching and would stop by - so glad you did. I rewound and watched the opening # a few times - fab!! I wasn't sure what Cat would do with that, er, position (lol). I'm not sure if complete couples have ever gone before and now we have two. We'll have to wait for new couplings which will change things up. I agree with your last statement. Nothing has made me want to stand and the mix up of couples may be the only thing to bring that on.eom/WE
  • Yes, I have been watching since the Top 20 started, other than an audition here and there. But mostly from the Top 20 on and have answered your posts. I didn't think that you saw them because I thought you were busy with storm problems with this ''lovely'' weather we were having lately. Granted, I responded late, but you usually catch it. I've been checking. When I didn't see you on the board with anything else until responding to your same sex marriage post this past week, I thought the storm had gotten you. I thought it was going to get us but we were lucky. Yeah, that opening was the only thing that has really thrilled me so far. I like the dances but nothing to ''scream at'' yet, LOL! Maybe they should throw all their names in a hat again. Actually, how do they pair the dancers? The same way that they pick the dances each couple does--out of a hat? ~ eom. Linda
  • I wish the judges would see what we see AND, as you suggest, throw the names in the hat again. The storms this week went above and below us. We didn't get the worst of it but we still got it. I've had a few computer problems that can only be blamed on weather. Plus I had rehearsal so there's that, too. I will always check back now since I have a few late comers. The opening was great so I hope we'll be treated to more of that on a regular basis. YES - they choose a partner from a hat then choose the style from another.eom/WE
