Additional Comments:

Tonight is the Quarterfinals and the countdown to the Semi-Finals next week with the Final night only two weeks away. Five couples are competing tonight doing two dances, one Ballroom and one Latin which they have picked a particular decade in which to do their Latin dance. The decades are the 60s, 70s, 80s, 90s, and Futuristic.

BALLROOM ROUND

The Judges weigh in on the five celebrities. Donny~"Born Entertainer"-Needs to concentrate on his posture; Joanna~"Glamour Girl"-has to watch her technique; Kelly~"Wild Child"-Mediocrity isn't enough…Grow or Go; Mýa~"Dancing Diva"-Tends to stay away from as much technique as possible…Stay away from the gimmicks and just dance; Aaron~"Boy who became a Man"-tendency to be overly exuberant…Stay in the zone and you'll nail it.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Mýa & Dimitry--QUICKSTEP-"Baby Wants a Diamond Ring"--
Practice: Mýa needs to prove herself. Dimitry thinks she needs to relax and takes her to a ranch for some horseback riding.
~~ Fantastic job! Fun!
Judges--Len-I couldn't find anything to criticize. Tom says that he looked at Marie Osmond and he almost fainted (referring to Len's change of opinion.) -10
Bruno-This is quality. -10
Carrie Ann-You made something so difficult and very intricate look like it just flowed out of your body with ease and grace. -9 = 29
Aaron & Karina--FOXTROT-"Lucky"--
Practice: Karina is sick this time but she doesn't want anyone to take her place. She and Aaron practice with masks on and work around her illness.
~~ Beautiful job but seemed a little stiff.
Judges--Bruno-A little bit tense, it didn't have the ease of flow necessary. It wasn't as smooth and free as it should have been. -8
Carrie-Karina's foot came off the floor. There was a bit of loss of fluidity. -7
Len-You have so many emotions. Job well done. -8 = 23
Joanna & Derek--QUICKSTEP-"Valerie"--
Practice:To give Joanna a competitive edge, Derek shows video of Mýa who is also doing the Quickstep so Joanna can learn from her.
~~ Whew! That was very energetic and I got out of breath just watching it.
Judges--Carrie-Very good but you forget to point your toes. -8
Len-A lot of running about, lacked body contact. Not the standard for the quarterfinals. -7
Bruno-You looked like you were running away from a crime. Not your best. -8 = 23
Kelly & Louis--FOXTROT-"Mama Do"--
Practice: Kelly is constantly distracted (even has her two dogs in the practice session) and Louis locks everything in a large trunk and the dogs in another room.
~~ Very nice but nothing sensational for this week to determine who goes to the finals.
Judges--Len-Your posture was very good, I loved the routine, footwork was a distraction but overall fantastic. -8
Bruno-You literally didn't go wrong, you kept focused. -9
Carrie-You need to work on your spots on turns and your extension on your range of motion. -8 = 25
Donny & Kym--VIENNESE WALTZ-"You Don't Know Me"--
Practice: Donny got burned out last week and is starting fresh this week.
~~ Beautiful dance. He is back and focused!
Judges--Bruno-How can you fail at being an entertainer? (It was so good.) -9
Carrie-I found it mesmerizing…and your posture was improved. -9
Len-Improved posture, loved rotation and liked that you attempted the Fleckle step. -8 = 26
LATIN ROUND (Contestants pick decades from a bowl that decides the era of the dance they will do.)
While waiting for the couples to change, we are treated with a medley of Latin dances by pros Tony & Mark with several young pro dancers from around the country. Great number!
Judges give their opinions on the celebrities with the Latin dances. Donny~Len wants to see Donny's Paso as an action hero like "Donbo" (play on Rambo); Mýa~has to be "Groovy". She likes to play it safe and needs to prove that she is in it to win it; Joanna~"SupaDupa" Krupa can sell sexy; Kelly~always better in hold than alone; Aaron~Looking for bounce, bum & bongos…Samba is totally Aaron…speed & agility will make up for Latin dances not coming natural to him.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Mýa & Dimitry--70s SAMBA-"Bad Girls"--
Practice: They decide to put some disco in their Samba since they have the 70s. Dimitry has a bit of a choreography block.
~~ Great routine! I remember some of those moves.
Judges--Carrie Ann- I believe you now. That was incredible! The techniques you threw in that flowed right into the disco. -10
Len
-You're on fire…your hips are hypnotic! -10 (two from Len tonight, Wow!)
Bruno-You are unbelievable…you do a mean Samba (then Bruno does Diana Ross singing and he can't sing!) Tom remarks, "You managed to impersonate Diana Ross and a strangled cat at the same time." -10 = 30
TOTAL = 59 out of 60

Aaron & Karina--90s SAMBA-"Two Princes"--
Practice: Aaron is happy for the 90s style since that's the era he grew up in. He teaches Karina how to do the Rodeo that all Boy Bands did in their movements.
~~ He is really fired up for this dance. It is great! No Rodeo, but a great routine. Didn't care for the leg warmers that Karina wore. It just didn't go with her costume.
Judges--Len-You performed it, you sold it, and you worked your socks off…Well done. -9
Bruno
-It's nice to see all that energy for good! -9
Carrie
-You're truly a great performer, you have smoothed out all the edges. -9 = 27
Samantha then asks Aaron about a certain gesture he made at the end of his routine and Aaron tells her that because he was still getting over his sickness (I guess the masks didn't work completely) he almost threw up after the vigorous dance. Tom quips, "That would be our 'oversharing moment' of the night."
TOTAL = 50 out of 60

Joanna & Derek--Futuristic PASO DOBLE-"Living on Video"--
Practice: Derek choreographs a unique futuristic routine and there are a lot of side by side movements that have to be exact.
~~ Very interesting and turned into a real cool Paso. Weird costumes and makeup.
Judges--Bruno-A masterful reinvention of a classic…Derek, you're a genius. -10
Carrie
-An outstanding execution of futuristic ideas. Joanna, you did not miss a step here. -9
Len
-Not only was the theme of the futuristic Paso Doble great, the content was great…Fantastic! -10 = 29
TOTAL = 52 out of 60
Tom states, "Tonight we have learned that in the future we will dance really well but we are going to look ridiculous."

Kelly & Louis--60s JIVE-"River Deep - Mountain High "--
Practice: Kelly shows Louis some 60s dance moves that they can incorporate into the routine. Kelly is very exhausted and doesn't know how she can go on.
~~ Very weak at the beginning. Not very sharp on her kicks. Not Kelly's best, IMO.
Judges--Len-You are a revelation. You come in stronger every week. -9
Bruno
-What an achievement. Don't be afraid, go for it even more! (Tom referring to Kelly sitting on Bruno's lap, "It's amazing, as a Dad, you make Ozzy look like Hugh Beumont!") -9
Carrie
-One of your best performances (what are these judges looking at?)…you got stuck in the turns, had a few missteps. -8 = 26
TOTAL = 51 out of 60

Donny & Kym--80s PASO DOBLE-"You Spin Me Round (Like a Record)"--
Practice: Donny feels he has proven that he can bring it to the table and wants to show that same intensity in the Paso. He mentions that he had a mullet then and wants to wear one in this dance.
~~ He is dressed as Adam Ant and his make-up makes him look like Marie. Pretty but Creepy. Good job, though.
Judges--Len-That was the most scary, bizarre, crazy Paso Doble I ever saw. It was a cross between Adam Ant & Adam Corolla, but I liked it. -8
Bruno
-That had more camp in it than a drag queen's convention. Great! Bruno compares Donny to Marie and Donny runs over to show how much they look alike with the make-up. -8
Carrie
-I thought it was hysterical and you did a great job of bringing that era back. -8 = 24
TOTAL = 50 out of 60

Results show guests will be Michael Buble, Susan Boyle, Design-A-Dance and Sabrina Bryan. One person will be eliminated. It should be Kelly, IMO, but with Aaron's luck and since he is tied at the bottom of the leaderboard with Donny, I'm thinking it will be Aaron and that will be a shame if that happens because he is better than Kelly.

Last night I thought Mya did a very beautiful Fox trot and I loved her Samba.  Aaron's Samba was fun!  Derek and Joanna's Paso Doble was terrific.  Donny and Kym did a good job but the proportions of the costume were a little distracting so it was hard to see the body lines in some of the moves but I liked the number.  Kelly and Louis 60's number was fun and they did a good job.  Susan Boyle tonight on DWTS!

  • Mýa did a wonderful Foxtrot! Her Samba was hot too! I thought all five had wonderful routines especially their decade dances and especially Derek & Joanna's Paso. That was unique! I did find myself looking at Donny & Kym's costume more and having to rewatch it to see the dance better. Kelly & Louis were interesting and I think Louis was trying to look like a Beatle like Kelly asked him to. I'm going to watch the show now. I can't wait to see Susan! ~ eom. Linda

    I find interesting and ''only'' interesting that all of the below comments did not include Derek and JoAnna.  Is it a given that they will come in second?

  • not for me, I think she will win the trophy.....Eve
  • There have been some comments about their futuristic Paso last night and how well that was done. I think that Joanna has been doing just as well as Mýa. What I don't like is when Mýa has done really well and Joanna makes a mistake and gets higher marks. I would feel the same if it was the other way around. Right now, to me, it is up to either one of them. ~ eom. Linda

    First off: Great job, Linda, with your recaps and comments. I enjoy reading them and the comments of everyone.

    Second off: Nothing was really bad last night, but only Mya (IMHO) showed absolute brilliance --- and, thankfully, was rewarded for it. She's been the best, I think, from the getgo this season, and I hope she keeps up the excellence she showed last night.

    I like Kelly, and Aaron's OK, and both really are working hard, but I would eliminate these two before any of the others. Joanna and Donny have been more consistent, although they're not in Mya's league, I don't think. But who knows with fanbases? I would have had Natalie in the top 5, at the very least, and sent Michael home in Week 1. So what do I know?

    I'm looking forward to seeing Sabrina tonite. Her getting eliminated before the finals is still the biggest voting crime in DWTS history. It would have been a much better final with her against Helio and Mel B ... and I still think Mel was better than Helio ... and Gilles better than Shawn ... and Mario better than Emmit...

    (OK, let it go, AJ, let it go) :) .

  • OMG - agree w/ all you said! past seasons and all! - kris
  • I agree, too, but I'm liking Aaron. Can't wait to see Sabrina - the biggest robbery in DWTS' history. eom/WE
  • Mýa has been doing a great job all through. I'm glad Len finally recognized her for it. What a change that was! All five are doing fine but I think the top three are Mýa, Joanna and Donny. I agree that Natalie would have given those three the run for the trophy or at least in the Top 4 or 5. I agree that I would have sent Michael home at the beginning but he did improve with that Paso Doble even though it was still a little stiff. Fanbases are another thing. I haven't been home to see the show yet so I'm going to do that next. I'm looking forward to seeing Sabrina too. She did get an unfair vote and the others as well. Gilles & Mario really surprised me because I thought their fanbases were much better than their opponent and they were both sexier too! I know, AJ, we just have to put it in the past. It's just so hard! Thanks for your comments! ~ eom. Linda

    Maybe Aaron can dance better than Kelly, but he looks like he's about to pop a blood vessel all the time.  Kelly's personality is so much better, and that's why I would vote for her.

    Mya is obviously the best, although, considering Donnie is at least 20 years older and maybe 30 than the others, it's hard not to root for him.

  • Oh, and what did I miss? Is the jive really Latin? Who knew? eom/CaroleA
  • I know! I saw that big vein in his forehead. I thought that was going to pop too. I think the whole thing is down to Kelly's personality over Aaron's. Kelly is more lovable. I'm rooting for Donny, too, but Mýa is better. ~ eom. Linda

    Yes, have enjoyed Kelly but her time is up.  Might be Aaron or Donny though.....looks like we might be seeing Joanna and Mya in the finals?  Who knows with the votes.

    I liked all the theme dances and the future paso was pretty cool with the costumes.

    Oh boy, Susan Boyle tonight!

  • Haven't been home and am just getting ready to watch it. Aaron & Donny tied for the bottom so it could be either one. I'm thinking Aaron over Donny because Donny is liked more. I will find out soon. I think J & M will be in the finals too. But you never know with these fanbases. I liked all the costumes and decade dances too. Derek did a fantastic job on that futuristic paso and those costumes were really cool. Looking forward to Susan tonight too! ~ eom. Linda

    I like all five but agree it should be Kelly. Aaron has been bottom so many times - even when he got a near perfect score so it might be him.

    I hope Donny's feet don't get in the way. He's a top showman but he will have points taken off for even the slightest mistake. He could take this or at the very least be in the top three with Joanna and Mya as I think Aaron and kelly won't make it.

    You never know what fanbases will do!!!

    Replies: (list all replies)

  • I'm thinking it's going to be Aaron. I have been gone tonight and haven't seen it. Hopefully, I won't be surprised at someone else. People just seem to be out to get Aaron and they embrace Kelly. However Donny is doing, I still say he is doing much better than Marie and if she can make it to No. 3, I would think he would and I agree with you that it would be with Joanna and Mýa. But like you, those fanbases can sure fool you! ~ eom. Linda

    I missed the last 2 dances but will catch up on line later.  Quarterfinals... I have never heard this term... is this used in sports as well?  This season sure went fast... with so many in the beginning plodding along, now we're down to the last 5 couples and we're rushing through.  shame.

    I enjoyed Mya last night and thought Kelly was good, better than last week.  Donnie is always enjoyable... but man... Aaron, his facial expressions really need to be toned down... His expressions make the dances seem like he's working out in the gym in a competition.  maybe the judges addressed this, but I find it hard to watch.

    I enjoy Michael Buble so I'll have to watch his performances.  Thanks as always for the updates.

  • I think they started using the term last season and yes, it is used in sports depending on the sport. With these last two double eliminations the number drastically dropped. I like it better when it goes down gradually. It does seem like we are rushing through this. I thought Mýa did very well last night. I personally liked Kelly last week much better. That's why it's nice to have everyone's opinion here. I agree with you about Aaron's facial expressions. I think something was mentioned some weeks ago. I'm looking forward to Michael Buble as well. Thanks as well for your comments! ~ eom. Linda
