I do have some good news regaurding 'poor kitty'. I finally got ahold of my friend. He is not going to go over to his mom's house. He's actually going to stay with and tend to the injured cat :) It was really bugging me because I wasn't sure if he was going to leave the cat alone because he told me he was supposed to go to his mom's. I'm glad he didn't. I feel SO relieved that he did the right thing.

The bad thing is he does leave the cat alone for a week at a time but it is not concidered neglect because he leaves food and water. I called and asked. I know that stinks that you can leave your cat by himself for a week of longer. It doesn't seem right.

I told him that he might want to give the cat away once he gets better if he's not able to be home a lot of the time. He didn't like that idea.

Luckily the cat is in no danger. I don't think there is much I can do other than try to find someone who will take the cat home and I have been asking around and hope he either doesn't spend so much time away from kitty or gives the cat away.

Here's the problem with his plan. When we first got Harrison he was (well still is) a frisky little kitten. We went on vacation and my brother was taking care of our cats. I'd fed them before I left and told him he didn't have to check until the next day. ONE DAY!!

Harrison had dumped the water bowl and neither cat had water!! Luckily for me my brother decided to check the same day we left and called me. NO animal should be left alone for a week regardless of how much food and water is left. Anything can happen PLUS this little kitty is injured.

Did you tell the whole story when you called? No way any agency wouldn't realize the dangers here and remove that cat. I still get anxious over what might have happened to my two had my brother not cared enough about me and them to check.

  • Sorry gotta add. IF you told the agency the whole story (injury, left for a week) and they said there is nothing they can do. You need to report them, TOO, and call another agency. This kitty needs to be removed from his care (actually lack thereof) pronto. Please consider getting the help from someone responsible. This is troubling me no end. eom/WE

Dear cookie, if you happen to be reading this I just wanted to tell you that I said some things to you that were out of line and wanted to apologize. I'm  stressed and I really want to do the right thing for this cat. I know it is not about me it's about helping a cat.

  • I read what you wrote to me. Thank you so much and I'm sorry, too. All my cats have been rescues and I can go a little overboard when I hear about a cat in distress. I know that you are doing the best that you can. I really do. Hugs and kisses..../ cookie

If the cat has two broken legs, and is being neglected for a week at a time, then it IS ANIMAL ABUSE.  Please understand that we are not trying to attack you on this board, but this kitty is in real trouble.  You seems to be the only one who can do anything, but you don't seem to really want to.  Call the Animal Abuse line in your area.  They will take care of anything and you won't need to get further involved.  Do it for the kitty's sake.  Can you imagine how much pain and suffering it is enduring while not getting any more attention than some morsels and water????  Please do the right thing.

  • I did call and there's nothing they can do. They told me as long as he leaves the cat with plenty of food and water it is not neglect. Since the cat is injured and if he left it would be neglect. He is at home with the cat. The only thing I personally can do is try to get someone to take the cat.-Miss.B
  • Any agency can't remove an animal from the home if the person responsible for the pet isn't there. They need to be served a notice that they'll be required to appear before a judge, plus the agency can't just break in. Our dog was taken from it's previous owners by ARF. He was tied out in the yard so one person untied him and took him to the shelter and the other person waited to speak to the owners when they came home.
