Topic: CHRISTMAS MUSIC?????

Additional Comments:

OMG, one of the radio stations I listen to in the mornings in the car and during the day on my computer at work started playing ALL CHRISTMAS MUSIC yesterday!  They will play only Christmas music until after Christmas!!  I couldn't believe it!!  I had a hard time yesterday because over the weekend it was 78 degrees and even yesterday it was 70.  But, this morning as I was coming to work, it was pretty nice actually!

Our Mall has had the Christmas decorations up for about 2 weeks now.  And our Target has had out their Christmas items since about a week and a half BEFORE Halloween.  Our Walmart has their Christmas items out too, but they didn't actually have their Christmas section ready for purchases until Halloween day.

I think they rush the season too much.  For me, it is really hard to get into the Christmas Spirit when it is still warm out!

How's the Christmas stuff going where you are??

I can never get into Christmas until after thanksgiving when my beloved shopping season starts. Our local stores here in beautiful Bucks County PA had christmas stuff out literally one week before Halloween. It's just more after Halloween. Stupid

Hobby Lobby has had Christmas ornaments and decorations up since JUNE!  I don't mind it, as I buy little at a time, easier that way for me.

I already have 2 of my trees up...a 81/2 foot trimmed all in gold ornaments, started putting that up Halloween night, takes me about 2 weeks to do it, 2500 lights and 2,000 ornaments.. and a 7 foot white tree trimmed in light blue.  I am now in the mist of putting up the Christmas Ceramics, Wreaths, Swags,  and inside lights. and garland.  I like to have the house decorated by Thanksgiving.

I have Son's, daughters and great granddaughter's gifts bought, will get  hubby's, Daughter in laws, and son in laws this month. grandson and wife as well...By Dec. 1st should have Christmas shopping done.

I would rather hear Christmas music than the crap they play now a days.... do not care for it one bit.

As you are aware, the Christmas Rush Season has been going on for years.    However, yours truly has mastered ''mental gloss over''.   Yes, that right, when I see the decorations and hype I gloss over to June.  Yet must admit it is very difficult to find a local station (Minneapolis) that play Christmas music all day.  I do enjoy that while shopping in December.

  • It is reported that 102.9 in Minneapolis went to Christmas music 24/7 yesterday (the 16th). / Sapphire

It's all about insane commercialism, like hearing that music is supposed to get people salivating about shopping. One of my favorite childhood memories has always been watching Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer, with the Burl Ives snowman and the Island of Misfit Toys. Well, the other day I was watching TV and there was a cell phone ad featuring the iPhone arriving on the Island of Misfit Toys, with all the original characters making snide comments about the iPhone. Now a favorite childhood memory is being used to sell expensive phones for Christmas. It all makes me sick.

I'm so used to walking around in shirtsleeves most of the time it doesn't faze me.  I am also one to shop early because I hate the frantic rush and crowded stores so when the local stores put out their Christmas decorations, I browsed.  Did you know they have strings of solar twinkle lights?

I can't get into the Christmas music thing until I decorate and put up the tree, though, and that won't be until mid-December.  And I've resisted getting poinsettias until after Thanksgiving.

This is why I don't understand why O'Reilly and his cohorts whine about the loss of Christmas. What loss? It's everywhere, it always has been since the day after Thanksgiving, only now it's right after Halloween. I was shopping in one of my favorite stores yesterday, and the Xmas music was so loud that I couldn't hear myself think. I have a favorite light rock station that only plays Xmas music, starting around Thanksgiving. I can't believe people need to hear that type of music all day and night.

It puts me in the mood to do artsy/craftsy Christmas projects and those always take 2-3 months.

So it doesn't bother me really.

At the end of August I went with my dad to Sears to get him a new phone. We had to go to the basement and they were putting up Christmas trees. I could not believe it but I was not suprised. I just wish we could celebrate each holiday as it comes. I asked my friends who work in retail why they do that.  They say they think it is because the stores are suffering and she told me some people buy gifts early and sometimes they forget about what they bought which makes them buy more around Christmas  time.

  • That does make sense Angela. I have never thought about that but I have to admit, I'll buy something early and then forget I bought it then buy something else, then remember but I won't take either back! So, that makes sense.......:) ~A&A's Mom

LOL... you sound surprised... this really doesn't surprise me at all anymore. ... I've been seeing Christmas decorations in Walmart and Target since before Halloween.  Actually those little ornament silver frames w/ the year on them that I've been buying at Target for YEARS aren't out yet... I sure hope they have them the next time I'm in there.

Christmas music in all the stores as well... this morning it really jumped out at me cause the store I was in was playing the Chipmunk song and that always makes you laugh!

I've got my cards organized and need to run my labels later today... I like to write them out Thanksgiving weekend.

This may be the first year we put up a fake tree.... its 4 feet - a lot smaller than the real one we always get and I wouldn't be able to put all my ornaments on it... but we're going to take it out after Thanksgiving and put it up on a table and see how it looks... and how the cat deals w/ it (his first Christmas, he's almost 6)... If I'm not happy w/ the smaller tree, we still will have time to go get real.

We're invited to a Christmas luncheon at work on the 4th - that's WAY to early if you ask me... I like parties closer to the holiday... by Christmas we'll have forgotten about that.

anyway... happy Christmas!  60 tomorrow in NYC and that's fine by me!

Being from up north, it's always hard for me to get into the spirit since it's usually pretty balmy here in Florida during the holidays. But you get used to 80 degree Christmases.

Last week a co-worker and I went shopping for decorations for our office Thanksgiving luncheon next week. We went to four different stores before we could find anything Thanksgiving-y, everything was Christmas, Christmas, Christmas. We finally found a clearance table at a party store with some ceramic pumpkins and gourds marked down 50%. Hard to believe 2 weeks before Turkey Day we had such a hard time finding decorations. But retail is expecting a tough season this year so I guess they're trying to get everyone in a spending mood, the earlier the better for them.

I personally prefer not to think about Christmas/Hanukah until after Thanksgiving. One holiday at a time please!

  • I don't do any Christmas decorating until the day after Thanksgiving, but I have started my shopping....actually I'm about 1/3 done.....and will probably do another 1/3 on Saturday then the other 1/3 next weekend or online. ~A&A's Mom
