2.) Your favorite Oscar-winning performance by an actor playing an actor?

3.) What is your favorite courtroom drama?

4.) Mel Blanc would be 100 years old this year. What is your favorite voice that he did?

1.) What summer movie are you most looking forward to seeing? I have four. Mamma Mia has a fabulous cast and early word is it's GOOD. Dark Knight - like many others I'm not into Batman but I must see what might be Heath Ledger's last role (if Dr. Parnassus doesn't make it). Wall-E which is getting rave reviews (and talk of Best Animated and/or Best Picture nomination) and Get Smart which isn't getting the best reviews (mixed) but the performances are there and I love Steve Carell and they say Anne Hathaway is very funny in it.

2.) Your favorite Oscar-winning performance by an actor playing an actor? There are so many but I have to go with Jimmy Cagney as George M. Cohan in Yankee Doodle Dandy and The Seven Little Foys (dancing with Bob Hope as Eddie Foy).

3.) What is your favorite courtroom drama? Comedy it's My Cousin Vinnie. Drama: To Kill A Mockingbird and A Time To Kill

4.) Mel Blanc would be 100 years old this year. What is your favorite voice that he did? Ahhh again so many but mine is a tie between Bugs Bunny and the ever fabulous Daffy Duck!!

I don't look forward to movies in the theater anymore

2.) Your favorite Oscar-winning performance by an actor playing an actor?

I don't know if he won an Oscar, but Dustin Hoffman as Tootsie was pretty good.

3.) What is your favorite courtroom drama?

Those real cases that used to be on NBC (I think)

4.) Mel Blanc would be 100 years old this year. What is your favorite voice that he did?

Marvin the Martian

  • Why don't you look forward to movies in the theater anymore ? izi
  • I swear one of my questions was going to be about the pros and cons of seeing a movie in the theater. Dustin was nominated but didn't win although he did win the BAFTA (which is the British equivalent to our Oscars). Awww Marvin.eom/WE
  • I used to love going to the movies. I grew up going but the last time I went there was a jerk behind us that laughed out loud with his HAR HAR HAR's at absolutely nothing and ruined everything. Also bringing kids to a kid movie is fine but bringing crying babies is not. She even paced the aisle like she was at home with a colicky baby. People have no respect for others anymore. Be it cell phone use or theaters. shebee

Sex & the City. I actually have a date penciled in a month from now - cuz that's the soonest a friend and I could get together to see it.
2.) Your favorite Oscar-winning performance by an actor playing an actor?
All ABout Eve, Bette and Anne (don't know if they won Oscars), Garland & Mason in A Star is Born (don't know if they won Oscars),
and can I please include DiCaprio in The Aviator even tho Hughes was a director? Please? Thanks! (lol)

3.) What is your favorite courtroom drama?
Primal Fear (ooh, crazy Ed Norton - this movie put him on my map) and The Verdict.
(And Erin Brockovich, which I think was more investigation than courtroom...)

4.) Mel Blanc would be 100 years old this year. What is your favorite voice that he did?
    Tweety and Pepe le Pew

    Fun ?s, ag

Dark Knight. I just saw Wall-E and didn't like it. Well it was okay, but I wouldn't go again.

2.) Your favorite Oscar-winning performance by an actor playing an actor?

The only one I can think of is Barbra Streisand as Fanny Brice (Funny Girl).

3.) What is your favorite courtroom drama?

To Kill a Mockingbird  is what comes to mind. I also like the scenes in The Accused. That movie was so intense that I had friends, especially guys, that walked out on the movie.

4.) Mel Blanc would be 100 years old this year. What is your favorite voice that he did?

Oh Marvin the Martian of course!! I liked how he would puff like he was out of breath when he got aggravated. Blanc was a pure genius!

  • Good choice of Marvin the Martian, I forgot about him. ag
  • My daughter were just discussing the other day how there aren't any Loony Toons on anymore. shebee
  • Ohhh you're right about The Accused - great courtroom scenes. I also agreee that Mel Blanc was a genius.eom/WE

  • I never watched SATC regularly but have caught an eppy here and there so I think I might enjoy the movie. Seems I liked the men more than the four women.I've seen MCV way too many times to count that I can say the dialogue with them. eom/WE
  • Angela, do you know that Seaford Movies on Merrick Rd has bargain prices? All movies all day on Tuesday are $6 and any movie, any day before 6pm is $6 ? I think it is the best deal on LI. Not a fancy place like the Farmingdale Theater that we went to on the weekend. They charge $11 but I can do w/o Sbarro's pizza and burgers. Seaford also has a great kid snack with popcorn, drink and MM's. izi
  • thanks izi...greta prices! I have to check it out...how are things going? .../Angela

1.) What summer movie are you most looking forward to seeing? The Dark Knight, Mamma Mia and Get Smart.  I've already seen the Indiana Jones movie which was good and Iron Man which was great.

2.) Your favorite Oscar-winning performance by an actor playing an actor?   Don't know if he won an Oscar for his performance but Cagney was wonderful in Man of a Thousand Faces.

3.) What is your favorite courtroom drama? Too many to pic, I really enjoy courtroom dramas but if I had to pick one it would be from Inherit The Wind.

4.) Mel Blanc would be 100 years old this year. What is your favorite voice that he did? Do I have to pick just one?  Daffy Duck.

    Thanks for the fun questions.

  • I saw Indy, too, and forgot that I DO want to see Iron Man. I'm a Downey fan and happy his star is rising once again. Ohhhh, yes Cagney was wonderful as Lon Chaney but nope, no Oscar. Another Daffy fan - love that bird.eom/WE
  • WE, don't wait too long to go see Iron Man. I was surprised that it wasn't playing at any of the local theaters near me. We had to drive out to Farmingdale which isn't far from me but still a bit of a drive. You won't be disappointed with the movie. I loved it and RDJ was perfect and I also hope he continues to do well. izi
  • Speaking of RDJ - any of you see him in 'Less THan Zero'? I thought he was so good in that and was a fan ever since. I'm glad he's on the rise again too. And he's cute. ag

1.) What summer movie are you most looking forward to seeing? Mamma Mia (of course, LOL).  I saw the show and loved it. I play the CD in the car quite a lot.

2.) Your favorite Oscar-winning performance by an actor playing an actor? I'm with you, W.E., on this one: James Cagney in Yankee Doodle Dandy jumps out at me.

3.) What is your favorite courtroom drama? I saw this just the other day - Witness For the Prosecution.

4.) Mel Blanc would be 100 years old this year. What is your favorite voice that he did? Bugs

  • I am so looking forward to Mamma Mia - the trailers are great and I saw the cast interviewed and more clips. The men? Perfect! Mr. Cagney was one of the old time greatest!! WFTP is a fabulous choice - now that's acting. eom/WE
  • W.E. I recently read an interview with Pierce Brosnan and he spoke about his role and singing in Mamma Mia. The entire cast is wonderful and I can't wait to see the movie too. I think it will be a huge hit. izi
  • I saw him interviewed by ET as was Meryl. They talked about the singing and learning the dances. Seems the younger cast members voted Colin the worse of the three fathers. I think he looks cute dancing so it can't be that bad.eom/WE
  • Adding: Like Angela, I loved Sex and the City and haven't seen the movie yet so that is on my big list for the summer as well. MM

Looking forward to Dark Knight which might also be an oscar winning performance from Ledger.  And will most likely be my favorite of an actor playing an actor (sorta, since Joker is an actor of sorts, lol).  Have a great day Folks!

  • I've been reading a lot about Heath in this role and his preparations, make-up, etc. I also love Christian Bale so I must see this in the theater.eom/WE
  • I think giving an Oscar to a dead actor is not fair to the living actors. Maybe if they do they could give a 'special posthumous' award. shebee

Hello everyone, I hope all on board are doing well. First things first, thank you W.E for filling in for me today. I still have those pesky in-laws till tomorrow!

1.) What summer movie are you most looking forward to seeing?
DITTO, with all of your choices. I'm looking forward to seeing those movies as well.

2.) Your favorite Oscar-winning performance by an actor playing an actor?
I have two. Bette Davis as Margo in "All About Eve", my favorite performance of hers. I also love, love, love Richard Dreyfuss as Eliot Garfield in "The Goodbye Girl." When he had to play a gay King Richard, hysterical. I think that role was Dreyfuss' best, IMO.

3.) What is your favorite courtroom drama?
Comedy, would be the courtroom scene in "Seems Like Old Times". Goldie Hawn, Chevy Chase and Charles Grodin were so funny. Drama, "To Kill A Mockingbird" is in a class by itself, but just add something new, the courtroom scenes in "Kramer vs Kramer" were outstanding.

4.) Mel Blanc would be 100 years old this year. What is your favorite voice that he did?
Bugs Bunny, but all his voices were great. What a talent.

Great questions, and BTW, if you ever feel an overwhelming urge, LOL, to fill in for me on a Monday Topic, let me know. I'm happy to step aside for you, occasionally that is.

  • Dreyfuss was hilarious and Bette is always fine. Seems Like Old Times is a movie we've seen way too many times - so many wonderful characters. Thanks Amie. eom/WE
  • amie, I recently caught The Goodbye Girl on cable. The movie is a favorite of mine. When I first saw it in the theater I developed a little crush on Dreyfuss. My favorite scene is when he states his appartment rules to Paula. Great movie. izi
  • Meant to mention that scene. Love when Dreyfus spits out the line about the panties in the bathroom.eom/WE
  • Sometimes I think I'm the only one in the world that did not like Kramer vs Kramer. shebee
