I sat there watching Monday's show and marveled at how much sympathy I had for the new and improved Jack. I didn't think he was drunk or impaired or that the warehouse fiasco would have gone down one bit differently had he been sober. I was fully ready to take all my soap board rage out on that self-righteous beeyotch Margo when she went after him for "drinking on the job."
But then Jack gave his statement, minus one teeny little thing, and Officer Jesus returned with a vengeance...

Message: I am guessing that Janet will take it upon herself to rat him out "for his own good." And that will be the straw that pushes Jack away from her. The bad girl he was married to before (several times) would never have betrayed him; lying is her stock in trade. This truth-telling know-it-all will out-self-righteous Jack in this instance. Just my guess.

Message: I can completely understand Jack not mentioning that he'd just had a beer or two. He is racked with guilt and deeply insecure about the rightness of his actions. To bring up the drinking would mean he'd have to accept even more doubt about his role in this tragedy. It was wrong not to tell Margo that he'd had a couple but it's entirely human. And I think it speaks more to his insecurity than to his "I can do no wrong" and "the rules don't apply to me" mentality we've been subjected to so many times in the past.

Okay, I should have worded that differently because I do think he was sober: "I didn't think he was drunk or impaired or that the warehouse fiasco would have gone down one bit differently had he not had a drop to drink."

Message: I'm glad he didn't say anything. It gives me hope that Jack can be humanized. I'm sure he'll be racked with guilt, blame himself completely, and maybe, just maybe, gain a little empathy - feel a little of what he's made Carly feel - turn some of his loathing on himself. I'm hoping for Jack's redemption, starting with realizing what kind of immature, self-centered, sociopathic nutcase he married!
