Sorry, I don't think this was the suits! I think this was strictly the fault of CORP! fee

I watched AW from the mid 70s to the end. Goutman DID not kill it. It had been dying for a long time.
Watched GL off and on in the 70s (my nana flipped between GL and GH, depending on what stories were on that day) and then regularly from the Four Musketeers era on. Again... you can't blame it on Kreizman. He wrote some good stuff.
The problems with GL can be traced back to around the time Jill Phelps was fired. Laibson and MacTavish screwed up GL. The death of Maureen Bauer in some ways of course started it, but that at least DID create good story. And things like that do happen irl. I loved that they showed us that we can lose the Moes in our lives.
While I agree with you that I hate the Mick story, your wish - which seems to be to pretty much ignore the people who are on the canvas now to bring back people we've not seen in decades and tell their stories - doesn't make sense.
A visit from Andy? Sure, I'd love it. Frannie, too. Maybe even Betsy. But I don't want them taking up alot of time. I want to focus on the people who live in Oakdale NOW.

IT disagree! I thought Laibson and McTavish were WONDERFUL! They brought Reva back on the show, and somebody else, I think it was Phillip. They brought Mary Stuart on as Meta, which I thought was pure genius! I think the things that killed the show was the AWFUL change they made in Harley (I wasn't watching when they changed her into a screechy self righteous shrew, so I don't know who was responsible for that), having her on WAY too much (making the viewers have to endure her constant shrieking), the losing of the character of Roger Thorpe, and all the budget problems. Pretty much P&G. I think they did it because they just wanted to. (Please see Rosebud for a more complete version of the P&G problems.) But I don't think it was Kreizman at all. He did LOTS of things I really loved. (and at least if Harlot was on a lot, I could ffd her)! Actually, after Harlot left the show, I hardly ever ffd a thing anymore! And it went up another hundred notches when Gridy left! (I STILL watch Phillip knocking that pompous jackass over that cliff, and just clap!) fee
Actually, I should say the firing of MZ and the getting RID of the character of Roger Thorpe. They had a great opportunity on the show of having a great SL regarding ALS. They lost a LOT of viewers over that. I've read many posters say they never watched again after the way MZ was treated when he was ill. That actually may have started it. The killing of Maureen Bauer was absolutely STUPID! She was a replacement for Bert, and the show wasn't the same after she was killed off! So getting rid of those two characters like they did was a huge part of it, I'm sure! fee
Fee I quit watching GL after the way they treated Michael Zaslow. I also hated how they killed off Maureen Bauer and rarely watched after that. IMO those two actions by TIIC began the downward slide for GL.
