I know I am in for some real flaming here and that's why I prefer to go anom but although I don't have a problem with gay people, I have a problem with gay people wanting ATWT to feature them as a lead couple. Today I read someone complaining that Parker has more airtime, duh! Parker and Liberty are not what I want to see everyday either, but TPTB are looking to grab the teenage viewers with a teenage couple. The rest of us want the best actors who are telling the best stories, and I'm sorry, that leaves Luke and Noah at the bottom of the pile. Van is a capable actor, but Jake is very wooden. I can't see ever getting involved in a storyline of his be it gay or straight. He just doesn't give the performances that we get from say Micheal Park or Austin Peck. Notice I left out Jon Hensley, because I think that Jake is copying Jon's acting style.
The front burner storylines are either 1) designed to attract a segment of the audience or 2) storylines involving the actors that prove ratings gold. In the case of Luke and Noah, sorry to say, if you tuned in to ATWT because of that storyline alone, they already have catered to you and they are now moving on, probably hoping that some of you will stay.
My reason for posting this topic is hoping that ATWT can be known for being a well written, well acted soap and not only for having a gay storyline. Might I suggest that instead of lobbying all the media and TPTB for more airtime, you focus your efforts on getting other actors who will involve the audience in the storyline.

"I don't have a problem with gay people, I have a problem with gay people wanting ATWT to feature them as a lead couple."
Just imagine a segment of viewers wanting their soap to actually feature people like them in situations like theirs, in a story that actually relates to their own lives. That's pretty nervy, alright.
Luke and Noah are two characters out of..... how many on ATWT? Is it really too much to ask that they and their romance be accorded equal - or, at least, similar - treatment?
The character Luke is not only played by a likeable, competent young actor, but he is the adult child of a core ATWT family. It's entirely reasonable to expect his first romance to be high profile. Just as, at one time, Betsy Stewart's first romance was high profile. Or Frannie Hughes's first romance. Or, for that matter, Luke's mother's various romances.
I can't think of a single legitimate reason why Luke and Noah should NOT be featured as one of the lead couples on ATWT, or why gay viewers should not want them to be.
''I don't have a problem with gay people, I have a problem with gay people wanting ATWT to feature them as a lead couple.''
Is it okay for me, a straight woman with two grown children, to want Luke and Noah featured as a lead couple? I'm not gay so, Donna E., I'm assuming it's okay by you. If it's not please let me know.
''The rest of us want the best actors who are telling the best stories, and I'm sorry, that leaves Luke and Noah at the bottom of the pile.''
''The rest of us'' once again I'm assuming I'm part of ''the rest of us'' considering I'm straight. Donna E., if I'm not part of ''the rest of us'' please let me know. Now that's out of the way, I just would like to comment it is the Writers telling the story. I do agree that I would like to see the best actors featured most prominently. I do think the actor playing Luke is one of the shows better actors, so I, assuming I'm part of ''the rest of us'', would like to see him featured more often.
''The front burner storylines are either 1) designed to attract a segment of the audience or 2) storylines involving the actors that prove ratings gold.''
Donna E. have you seen the ratings? If you haven't, let me tell you they are terrible. So I'm assuming the stories and actors that are being featured heavily now are not providing ''ratings gold.''
''My reason for posting this topic is hoping that ATWT can be known for being a well written, well acted soap and not only for having a gay storyline.''
I hope for the same thing and I hope it will happen in the not too distant future. A future in which As the World Turns has new talented writers.
