Topic: Roger, Roger, Roger ...

Additional Comments: ... why can't you get into your kisses? He's an actor. He needs to immerse himself into the character completely. I think he is too aware of the real world in his love scenes. He holds back. If I knew nothing about him or the character and was watching him for the first time in yesterday's scenes I would think he was a virgin, kissing for the first time. I love watching the man, but this has always been an issue for me.

I thought it was completely in character for Paul to be hesitant when Little Mouse started trying to jump his bones.  Most adult males aren't into 12 year olds (I know she isn't actually 12, the actress or the character, but my actual 12 year old daughter has more backbone than Sophie).

When Sofie first started kissing Paul, Roger looked uncomfortable--because Paul, the character, didn't expect it and wasn't sure how to handle it.  It was acting.  Later, though, on the couch when Meg walked in, he sure looked as if he was into it!  (Uh, the kissing, that is.)

This whole perception started when Roger played Todd on OLTL, because he is a smart enough actor to know that Todd had major issues with women and sex, so he played the love scenes as that kind of man.  Ever since then, people have heard the "Roger can't do love scenes" rumor so much that they're seeing what they expect to see.  Roger does just fine with love scenes!

  • OO, nope, I disagree. Roger has a problem with kissing his co-stars. When he was with Rose and Emily, there were some moments when I think he got into it, but for the most part I don't think he likes doing it. I have scrutinized all of his kisses and feel quite confident in saying what we see is Roger kissing and not Paul.
  • Well, we'll just have to agree to disagree, because I have found his love scenes very hot--when they're supposed to be hot. It all depends on how the character he's playing is feeling about the kiss. --Oakdale Oldtimer--

I don't see what you are talking about at all. Rh looks very comfortable and sexy in his love scenes on ATWT it was on OLTL with KDP/Blair that he looked like he was going to puke.

Why should he be any good at kissing?  He doesn't do anything else well at least not consistently well.  At the end of the show the other day when he saw the balloon going up, he was looking around like he was wondering if they were done shooting yet.  This guy has been half there for the last 3 years.

  • I read that scene quite differently. He had this helpless look on his face like what do I do now? I thought he was looking around to see if there was something/someone that could help him stop Meg and Mike from messing up his plans. Should he have stood there looking up at the baloon the whole time?

Well he didn't look uncomfortable today! That man went right after it!

It occurred to me today that Sofie's new look may be a production team's effort to make her look older.

Here's the thing, the two actors do have good chemistry and they did look nice on screen together. But the chemistry was better and they looked more natural when SHE looked more natural. I hope they restore her curls and darker lipstick soon.

Maybe Roger is uncomfortable b/c the actress is quite young. I haven't seen the scene, so I cannot judge. I will say that I've seen RH sizzle in scenes w/plenty of women.

On OLTL, he shared some real passionate moments w/Rebecca and sadly, Blair. I loved TNT, but his relationship w/her was mostly overshadowed by his "issues." That said, he was pretty hot w/her on the island.

On ATWT, at one time or another, I "felt" the passion in all his relationships. He was pretty hot, to me, with Rose, Rosanna, Emily, and Meg.

This is all subjective. I have no problem w/RH in love scenes! That's not to say, he doesn't bring it sometimes b/c sometimes he doesn't. I cannot say, at least for me, that he NEVER brings it b/c I've seen him sizzle.

    JMO.

  • I think it's because Paul thinks Sophie is too young & that it's wrong about what they are doing & Roger is playing it that way. Why does everything RH do get criticied? I've never seen this with any other actor as much as with RH....G
  • Calm down gemini. I'm a fan who tends to pay too close attention to every little detail.

I've watched Roger for years now and I have always noticed that he is pretty bad in love making scenes.  I've heard a lot of excuses from his fans as to why, but I'm not buying any of it.  He is just not good in any type of love scene, whether its a simple kiss or pretending to make love.

I noticed that too. And I don't really care how "uncomfortable" actors whine about being during love scenes. They get paid a lot of money to be actors and they bloody well ought to ACT. And not like spoiled children about it. Can't be much less comfy than running around in high heels all day like their lady counterparts do. And we viewers are much more critical of the ladies in any state of dress than we are of the men.

BTW, did Roger have a sunburn or does Paul have burn scars I don't know about because I haven't watched regularly in a long time?

Another BTW, I don't mind the Paul and Sofie pairing. Looks like it's temporary and he's headed to Emily-ville anyway. Likewise I wish they would give Sofie her lovely curls and red lips back. Or is there a deliberate reason to have her modeled too much after Meg? Straight brown hair instead of curly almost-black and beige lipstick instead of red... Hm.

  • Paul has burn scars from when his car was blown up a couple of months ago. I'm shocked they are still there, lol. =^..^=

RH, & others, have said that they feel uncomfortable doing 'love scenes'.  At least he is one of the honest ones!  I think that it fits w/the scenes w/Sophie though.

    Replies: (list all replies)

  • I don't want to see his discomfort. I hope he can hide it a little better.
  • If you don't want to see his discomfort, then you should turn away, because he is pretty lousy at hiding it since so many of us have noticed and its been going on for years.
  • When did Roger ever say he was uncomfortable doing love scenes? I have all his interviews, which were few, and he never said that. That is something Roger would never say. He is private about feelings like that. Fans have said it plunty but not Roger. By the way he has none some beautiful love scenes but does not do deep kissing ever. Soap stars are not required and many refrain from it. LongtimeRHFan
  • RH has said that he isn't comfortable doing love scenes. That isn't rare or unusual. Lots of actors have said that. He didn't want his character on OLTL to have onscreen love scenes, primarily because he didn't want Todd to be seen as romantic--which I can totally understand. A lot of actors don't do deep kissing in their scenes, for a variety of reasons. One of them being that they don't necessarily translate well to film/tape. A lot of married performers don't feel the need to go that far in their scenes either. This is a job of illusion. The majority of the actors that are scene 'in the afterglow' aren't naked under the covers either. eom
  • He said that when he played a rapist character for that reason!! Everyone who follows Roger understands that. He never said he disliked love scenes in general for other characters.
  • The poster asked WHEN did he say that, since she has all his interviews. She wasn't asking about ''alot'' of actors, just RH. WHEN did he say that? Did he single you out and tell just you? Probably!! LOL!
  • The OLTL fans said it was in his contract that he will not do any love scenes. Like anyone knows what's in any stars contract!! They, the fans went as far as saying Roger's wife didn't allow it..LOL Well since leaving OLTL & the character of Todd the rapist we all found out how everything that was said for all those years was just the fans being pissed that Roger would not do a sex scene as Todd. Nothing to do with any other character he plays. Rosebud, there's RH websites that have all the interviews RH ever did. The only thing you'll find is RH commenting on how he was not comfortable playingTodd the rapist as a romantic lead character, He said he understood how the show had to do this because Todd became so popular, but he in good conscience couldn't promote it & so he left the show. I'm sure when he returned after Malone was gone it was put somewhere that they wouldn't show Todd having sex. But RH NEVER said he was uncomfortable about doing sex scenes, it never happened.....G
  • I think its just a bunch of baloney to say Roger didn't want Todd to seem romantic which is why he is so lousy in love scenes. Whats his excuse now. I'm not bashing RH because I do enjoy the actor and I like him as Paul. But its a fact for me that he can't do love scenes and fortunately that is not what I tune in to see from him.
  • Tweety, here it is from RH's mouth...INSIDE
  • G: It was rumored that RH had it written into his contract, only after he had returned to OLTL after TPTB tried to link Todd, romantically, w/everyone--including the rape victim! RH had said he didn't want Todd to be seen in a romantic light & he definitely didn't want to see Todd & Marty paired romantically. There are always rumors about what is in actors' contracts, sometimes they turn out to be true. ATWT's EF (Lisa) DID have a no-Grandma clause in her contract for yrs. Some actors talk about their contracts, while others don't. The only ones who NEVER talk about what is in a contract is the Corp. Suits. eom
  • Roxie: Please, stop misquoting me. I have never said, or implied, that I have had a personal conversation w/RH about this topic or any other. Never happened. That YOU choose to interpret what I've said this way & then claim that is what I said, or implied, is simply wrong. I have never met RH & probably never will. But if I did, I would have a lot more interesting topics of conversation than whether or not he feels comfortable doing onscreen love scenes. eom
  • Rosebud, That's not what you say in your post though. You say RH & others have said they are uncomfortable doing love scenes. I've never seen that in writing & I'm sure if in fact he did say that BACK THEN, he was talking about doing love scenes asTodd the rapist. The little press he did, he never talked about how he felt personally about anything other than making sure that Todd was not redeemed a hero & a romantic leading family man. Because watching Roger as Paul he has no problem getting down & dirty.Maybe because Paul isn't a rapist, well not yet anyway....
  • Please, don't misinterpret this as me saying that RH didn't ever say that he was uncomfortable w/love scenes, but RH & others HAVE said that they don't particularly like doing love scenes. It isn't a negative reflection on them or their co-stars. It is just something that isn't that uncommon. Even if RH had never said anything, his body language conveys it in every scene! It isn't about playing a rapist or not. It is about some people simply not being comfortable being that revealing on camera, in front of a ton of people in the studio, much less an audience of millions. eom
  • Once and for all Rosebud, RH never said he was uncomfortable doing love scenes in general, only when he played Todd a serial rapist. He was even spread eagled on a board naked in his Primetime Prey with a tiny loin cloth over his lowers.
