Okay, am I the only one who wanted KATE to whirl around and scream, "Shut the *%#$ up, Janet!"

I mean, I like to see Fluff suffer, but even I had some compassion in this instance.

actually, I saw a bit of poignancy in that scene...Janet clearly feeling awkward & out of place and just blathered on to fill the silence of Katie & Jack just staring silently at the hospital room door.  Henry was clearly torn between listening to Janet go on & on as kind of a shield for Katie ("I'll listen to her so she won't get in Katie's face") and wanting to join Katie & Jack in their vigil.  Clearly, Katie didn't hear a word Janet said.

I've been known to babble on when in an awkward situation...guess I can relate.

  • You know, in any other hands I too could have seen that and in many ways did see it or at least saw that that was what was intended, but for whatever reason, it was still like nails on a chalkboard and I had to reach for the remote to turn it down so I could watch the scene. It's hard for me to make the shift from the Janet who's telling everyone in her world how it should be and trying to get her daughter and husband to do as she wants to a Janet who's at a loss and making a poignantly awkward hash at an awful time. To me, she was still know it all, where angels fear to tread Janet, filling any available space with her overbearing presence regardless of how appropriate it may or may not be. It was just irritating and insensitive to me. I guess I just couldn't buy it given the way I already feel about the character, but I can see what you're saying. eom/pita

MH: I know. You know what kills me is how she portrayed this attitude of knowing Brad. He called her Juicy Janet and obviously showed that she wasn't more than a piece back in the day. She goes on with that stupid story as if she knew him better than anyone else, including his own wife.

Then when she came home it wasn't about Liberty losing her dad, it was about Janet and only Janet.

  • It certainly did seem that Janet was focused on herself...as usual...when it came to telling Liberty about Brad. I was hoping to hear words from her about how fragile Liberty already is, and how she (Liberty) will be heartbroken. (eom) Mandi

I was SURE someone was gonna tell her to shut up at some point. But Jack and Katie were so totally in their own world I don't think they were even paying enough attention to her for it to register.

I gotta say it again - Park and Columbino were terrific today.

  • That's for sure! They were awesome! eom MaryHatch
  • It was incredibly obnoxious & crazy to watch Janet go off like that. Jack & Katie weren't even listening to her. Not sure about Henry either. The funny part is that it was consistent as to who Janet is. Everyone deals with tragedy differently & as crazy as listening to Janet was it was pretty much on target for her. She could have ended Brad's HS football heroics alot faster. Marty
  • They really were fantastic today. I can't believe no one told Janet to shut up either. Even when they were seeing Brad after he had died; if I were Jack, I would have been a little bit annoyed that she was blubbering all over the death of MY brother. She has every right to be upset, but hello, Jack's his brother and Katie is his wife. Just shut up for a while, and stop trying to make it about you FOR ONCE!!

Don't you know it has to be all about Janet? In every scene and line, she has to be the center of attention. what a self centered itch Janet is.

I don't know what the writers were thinking...Janet's behavior was unbelievably inappropriate. If the writers want us to dislike the character, they did a bang up job today. Well, if the writers want ME to dislike the character, they can keep piling it on - I actually liked Janet for a while. Funny how the more saintly they make Janet, the more I can't stand the sight of her.

I just finished watching this tape and you beat me to it, Mary.  I kept screaming at the TV.  Shut up, Janet!  That was totally inappropriate for that time and place.  I have sort of liked Janet somewhat, lately, but NOT TONIGHT!

LOL...GAWD that story WAS endless! If it'd been about half the length, at half the volume, it might have been tolerable. But geesh, when she went on and on and on, and then ended with a "and that was only a football game..imagine what Brad would do for his son..." I WANTED TO SLAP her into next week.
Just when you think they can't make her more obnoxious, they find a way.

It truly was awful listening to her go on and on like that. With soaps it isn't always clear what they are trying to achieve. Were they trying to show what happens when a talk-aholic can't shut up even in the face of death or did they want us to believe her runaway mouth was bringing anyone comfort?
