Two days of him having a brief conversation with Jack? No scenes with Jess or even a mention of her? Id rather not have had him back at all if that's all it was.
Honestly TPTB are so stupid. They have a cast of 30 plus characters, 29 of whom are white (if you count Bonnie's monthly appearance) yet the established, popular black characters like Ben and Jess who they could write for, they bring back for 2 days and don't even let them have a scene together. Yes I know the actress Tamara Tunie who played Jess is on Law & Order SVU but if they wanted to they could work around that, keep her on recurring, marry Ben & Jess in a big ceremony and keep them married while she's on the backburner with her SVU job, but making sporadic appearances, and he's featured at the hospital and supporting step-daughter Bonnie and Sarah, son Curtis and brother Isaac in their various storylines... Curtis could be involved with Jade, Sarah with Dallas, Bonnie caught between Isaac and Derek... Maybe Lien, Walker Daniels and Camille Bennett could return
Honestly any storylines involving any of these previously established characters (or any other minority characters for that matter) couldn't be any worse than the crap we've seen written for all the white characters year after year, yet for some reason TPTB refuse to join the 21st century and do it... very frustrating...
In the future, if TPTB aren't going to give two of my favorite characters Ben & Jess storylines worth coming back for, don't bother. Seeing them in separate 2-day stints does not do their fans justice and certainly doesn't fill the minority quota assuming ATWT even has one.
I'd rather not get my hopes up after reading about their "returns" in the soap press to see that its only a handful of scenes over the course of a day or 2.
I agree that ATWT needs some diversity... any diversity would be a plus! It puzzles me why they do not bring in an African American family or a hispanic family.. and no, Celia and whatever her brother's name was.. does not count, they were too awful.
I don't want them to bring Ben back because he is AA... I want them to bring Ben back because he was a terrific character. PP is probably one of the most handsome men.. and the soul of the character, the heart of Ben was so kind, generous and heroic.. and yes, as you can tell I adored him.
How about bring Ben back to run a Food Bank in Oakdale? You could come up with many different storylines connected to that Food Bank... and many different characters as well. You could do a crime storyline where the mob is trying to use Ben's food bank as a way to run drugs or something... so many different characters could get involved with that including Margo and Jack.. could be a big umbrella storyline.. kind of like Teague's storyline all those years ago. Many different characters ended up being involved in that and it was a great storyline, imo. Heck you could have Nancy and Kim and Lisa working the Food Bank at times... so we could just get a peak at them every once in awhile! I don't know... how can they not find a storyline for Ben? Unless PP is doing something else and does not want to return, I see no reason for TPTB not to bring him back as a regular.
