She strikes me as more troubled than anything about it. Holden was all grinning and happy during the afterglow in the cabin, but Carly has been at best bittersweet about the whole thing.
I am betting that she wants to treat it for what it was , an attraction that was satisfied, a hook up that's best left in the past, before she starts to attach all kinds of feelings to the experience.

The Holden/Carly story reminds me of the plot in the novel Little Children. Two married-with-kids people have an affair. In the process, they do ridiculously goofy, childish things, because they're (ostensibly anyway) in love. This is what I'm seeing with the Holden/Carly story. Yes, they're grown-ups and should know better - occasionally we see reminders that they do recognize the consequences of their actions. But IRL, grown people behave in childish and outright despicable ways. Not pretty, but there it is.

Message: I got the definite feeling that while she was imagining it meant more than it did - to Holden - she was feeling pretty lousy about it. From the minute Faith knocked on the cabin door Carly seems to be having a bad case of the guilts. Holden....he's not.

Yes, she is sorry for what happend and yet she does have these feelings for Holden. Holden has feelings for Carly and also has guilt for having slept with her. He is trying to make up for it by moving back in with Lily. In the end, he will hurt Lily much more. IRL, he and Carly might be able to put it behind them and go back to their respective lives. Since this is not real life, the affair will be exposed (pregnancy, overheard conversation, whatever).
