Topic: Has ''Forbidden Love'' ever been done before? Holden & Carly

Additional Comments:

First, I don't want them together.  But as I was watching the split screen yesterday I couldn't help but think they're going to do a story of forbidden love between the two.  And as much as I don't want Carly with Holden, for some reason I'm intrigued by this.  For starters it's nice to see Carly think about another man besides Jack.  Secondly, I find it realistic that Holden is starting to like Carly as a person because of the alone time they're spending together.  She's not the big bad monster Jack makes her out to be when he's with Holden.  If they play this slow, meaning they do fall in love and don't get caught very soon, lol, it could be an interesting story.  Surely things like this happen in real families?  lol.

However, I did roll my eyes yesterday when Holden started talking about trust issues with Lily.  I wish Carly had spoken up and said "maybe she's afraid to tell you things because of how you always react?"  Kind of like Jack.  ;)

The only way I will be able to enjoy Holden and Carly if they get some heat from the community for their relationship. Holden and Lily shouldn't be the only ones not liking them as a couple. I want their children to be grossed out. I want Lucinda and Emma to not like it one bit. I want them to get funny looks from people. I want folks talking behind their backs. Because that's what would happen in real life. When people hookup who shouldn't people talk. And people would talk about Holden and Carly.

  • The same thing happened in our town. lol And people DID talk, but it eventually blew over and the couple was accepted. It just dawned on me, the same thing also happened on Y&R with Nick and Phyllis. I just wish they'd have hired a single, kidless, RICH, HOT, SMARTand KIND man for Carly!
  • I personally could not care less what Emma says. She's hypocrite. ht
  • You won't care but Holden, Carly and the children will. I just don't want to see everyone in Oakdale just accept them without so much as a whisper. I always thought the better story early on in the Jack/Julia/Carly disaster should have been good-guy Jack choosing bad-girl Carly over good-girl Julia and then taking the heat for it from his family and everybody else who wanted to put their 2-cents worth in. That never happens on a soap while situations like Jack picking Julia and longing for Carly had been done to death. (Mrs. B. H.)
  • Don't worry.... trust me JP will make sure Carly is tarred and feathered if she and Holden start a romantic relationship. Jack and Lily will look like victims and everyone in Oakdale will rip them to shreads. There has never been a time JP didn't take an opportunity to make Carly look bad. Holden/Carly is probably her way of taking away Carly's last friend. Personally, I like them together. eom

The only fun I can see in this storyline is watching Jack have to deal with the fact that he lost two ex-wives to relatives.

  • Not two, three. He lost Julia #2 to Holden too

I'm intrigued by it too and I think it is because of how animated HOlden is around Carly.  It is like he is out in the sunlight and not just literally for the first time in years.  I certainly don't see them lasting because HOlden and Jack are a lot a like and Carly has a lot of trouble with the truth - even more so than Lily.

I"m not sure this is really forbidden.  Is there ever forbidden love on a soap?  Carly and Jack are divorced.  If Holden and Lily split yet again, I don't see the real issue.  It gets messy but then Katie just married Jack's brother so...

YES indeed they have done inapprroiate(?) love before.Holden & Lilly. He's her uncle for gawd's sake. Raised together or not, adopted or not, married or not,he will always be her uncle, and  greatuncle to his own kids.Talk about forbidden.

  • I agree, but that's not what I'm talking about. You know, that would have been a good story if the rest of the family, and them, saw it as wrong. I don't know what hair got up Marland's butt. lol And I bet anything we're facing more incest with Parker and Liberty Valence.
  • But guys, I think we can all agree that the *most* forbidden relationship ever on this show was Meg and Josh. Ewwww... And didn't poor Iva even stand up in their wedding?!? Mind boggling! eom MaryHatch
  • I hated that relationship. There are few things that I can't forgive, but the main one is rape; even worse, if possible when the trust of a family member is betrayed. (OK, I'm fickle, I did forgive Roger Thorpe, but who wouldn't?) I also couldn't get over Denise selling her baby; yet strangely enough murder doesn't bother me if it's in a good cause. LOL. ./MissM.
  • Sorry, but I don't see how anyone can call Parker and Liberty incest. They share no blood and weren't raised together as relatives. If they become a couple it won't be incest. (Mrs. B. H.)

I'm not afraid of a Carly/Holden relationship at all. This isn't starting out like things did with Jack or like things did with Lily when she and Holden were teens - you know, that sexually charged air between them. This relationship is beginning with genuine, mature friendship. I'm enjoying their scenes more than anything else on the show. My only fear is that they'll put Carly back with Jack way too soon. I never thought I'd say it but never would be too soon for me unless Jack morphs into an entirely different person. Carly may be a lot of things but she's not mean. Jack is flat out mean and mean-spirited.

  • I like the slow friendship too. Hey did you notice what came out of Jackasses mouth yesterday? He told Carly, *I'm agreeing with you. Enjoy it.* What a bas***d.
  • Oh, I just wanted to kill him when he said that. So incredibly condescending. eom MaryHatch
  • Ya know, I just want to smack Jack upside the head with something. I'm waiting for the day he and Holden get into it and Holden decks him because you know Jack - the minute he thinks Carly has moved on he'll want her back......ht
  • I know this isn't a Carly bashing thread and I'm nto trying to make it into one. But I think Carly can be mean when she wants something. She was especially mean to Julia #1, she was mean in marrying John, knowing her friend Lisa had a thing for him, she was horrifically mean to Gwen and she was unfairly mean to the guy who got Jack's job (I can't remember his name) and later turned out to be a murderer. I've seen Carly be a lot things. She's been generous, unselfish, giving, loyal... But she's also been incredibly mean. (Mrs. B. H.)
  • I agree that Carly has been VERY mean and nasty in the past, though she has mellowed in recent years. Can you say ''Fetus stocking in the fireplace''? LOL. Man, I wish that was up on youtube! eom MaryHatch
  • Yeah, I guess Carly can be mean - usually to women and I agree she was mean to Julia #1 - tho I did so love the stocking scene! But she's never been mean to Jack. Think about it - she's never been mean to him, not selfish, not mean spirited, never demeans him. It's the exact opposite - he does those things to her. Besides, Jack shares the blame for Carly's treatment of Julia - he wanted Carly so he never put a stop to anything - he kept both women dangling. ht

If they were smart about this (ha ha, what are the odds?) they would keep Carly and Holden's relationship to strictly friendship for now.  Yes, let Holden enjoy the time he and Carly are spending together and realize she can be OK, but let it stop there.  Then, sometime down the road, bring them together romantically.  Bank something for the future, maybe even a couple of years later.  That's the way I would like it to work.

  • I like your scenario too, except in soap time, that's a LONG time. I'd like to see Jack honestly work to get Carly back, but she wants nothing to do with him and he can't figure out why. Then maybe a year down the road the *affair* comes out and boy does Jack explode...at HOLDEN. lol
