What we've seen this week on ATWT has made me cautiously optimistic about it's future. On a personal level Brad's death & it's consequences is the best storyline this show has had in years.  ATWT has become must see television for me again.  Can't wait to watch the next turn of events as it unfolds & the glorious MW  returns next week to boot. Everyone has been  supberb  (yes  even  Julie Pinson as Janet LOL).

The problem is that none of the other storylines are currently working IMHO. Holden/Lily/Damien is just so blah & it's  putting me to sleep. Maybe the acquisition of Tom Pelphrey to the cast will help? I just think & I could be wrong but if ATWT could get another storyline that integrates  cast members we might be on the road to saving this show.

I believe also that Brad's death SL is a good one. The fact that TC is doing such a good job as his grieving wife may have something to do with the fact that he is truly "dead" to her as far as being his partner on the show (maybe not off the set)- the show relationship is over now-enough to make her weep.

Well the Lily/Damian/Holden story became ff material for me the day they decided to have Damian withhold the fact that the dental records didn't match with the corpse. Why TPTB have to ruin any man who comes in contact with Lily is beyond me. Damian loved Lily and the  real Damian not the one Passanante writes about, would have told Lily that fact, but also told her that it was possible that Holden had also died in the crash and they will have to look for his body.

This plot could have been so much better if, when Holden turned up alive, Lily found herself wondering if she should go back to him or perhaps she still truly loves Damian and we would see her conflicted about whether she should leave her children and Holden or stay with Damian.  Also perhaps Holden would have found he had feelings for Maeve and also wondering if he should stay married to Lily.

Sadly we got this mismatch that the majority of the viewers hate and can't wait to see it end. Too bad because I have always been a fan of Paolo Seganti.

I am waiting for Carly's entrance. From the looks of the previews it will be a grand one. She look's great. I love Carly up or down. She's my gal. I put her heads above Cathy, Lily or Janet.

I am also enjoying DeadBrad storylines.  Katie's lack of makeup and coif help contribute to seeing her true grief.  I'm glad they didn't drag out the "I don't want to see my baby" and that she realizes she's got to get her act together for him.  All the stories surrounding Brad's death are good because so many are involved in "fault" here...including Brad himself.

Fast forward material = Damien and Lily.  He just doesn't appeal to me and I think he's a lying  sneaky weasel.  How quickly we forget that he hid the fact that the dental records didn't match. He did anything he could to make sure Lily didn't know he could be alive. He's stalking her, grabbing her and forcing himself on her to no end.  I want to hit him.  I want someone to find out how deceptive he was during Holden's absence.  I'm no fan of Lily, Holden, the two of them as a couple, but I'm REALLY not a fan of this "I saw you kissing him, so I'm going to kiss someone else"  and the whole back and forth bit of situations that someone misunderstands - and therefore, they can't get on with their lives.  That's wy I FF them.

I am enjoying all the storylines right now, including Damien/Lily/Holden.  I can't wait for Carly's return because I know that also will appeal to me.  I wasn't feeling the Uncle Ralphie nonsense, although I love SD, I'm glad it will be over soon.  And I too am softening towards the Henry/Barbara thing if its going to be more of a friendship and not a love story, cause I can't imagine anyone loving that creep, Henry right now.

ICAM, although just the sight of Damien works for me. Anything Holden is involved in bores me to tears - he did manage to keep me interested when he was briefly paired with Maura. If they take Lily/Damien/Holden/whoever in a new direction, I might be interested. Luke and Noah have been so angst-filled boring that I just find it sad - they are young guys, give them young guy lives - not this clingy crap. I am loving...and I do mean loving a Barbara and Henry friendship. If this gives CPZ a story - hooray! I like Craig and Rosanna back together and I wish that could continue and I am so looking forward to Jack's continued breakdown and Carly's return and could the writers please send Janet over a cliff?
Parker and Liberty have been great, Paul and Emily and Katie, and even Dusty, are off my FF list - I hope the writers keep it up and show more of the relationships between the characters. Oh, BTW, I have not missed Meg one iota. I'll be happy if she's off the canvas for a while.

I agree about the Lily & Damian/Holden SL.  It lost what little interest it held for me when Holden returned, although I like to watch Damian.  Hey, I'm female, some of us like to look at pretty men.  The Luke/Noah whoever/whatever has bored me almost from day 1, and none of their petty conflicts has been the least bit interesting or different.  I do think that the Paul/Emily SL has possibilities, with Meg's unstability and the entrance of TP.  I will say however, that I was one of the few, very few apparently who was not fond of TP's acting or his character on GL.  But he is a casting coup and I'm willing to change my mind. Umberella plots are always good, and the Jack & Carly redux could impact most of the town if done right, and the writing does seem to have improved.

Does anyone know if there are different writers now that the show has gotten better or is it just that the old writers themselves have gotten better?

  • We will find out when Carly returns. If she is groveling as usual to Jack, then J.P. is still writing.
  • Yes the show has new writers from GL David Kreizman now shares co-headwriter duties with Jean Passanante.A writer named Gold also came from GL.I think the same lousy lazy writing is going on that went on at GL in the end. Nov is a sweeps month so of course we get the good stuff. TPTB aren't fooling anyone.Sweeps is them throwing the fans a bone and when the crappy writing returns we get the blame for abandoning the show.-daydreamer
  • Thanks. J.

Yes, it looks like the writers are looking at the situation from several different angles (a great way to write a storyline). Since Katie is Casey's aunt, could this be a way for Casey to grow up and bring Adam back?

I could not agree more. For example, I thought the pairing of Henry and Barbara was ridiculous, but the scenes between them after Brad's death are working for me -- an odd friendship seems to be blossoming. THAT's good soap, not the isolated silos of the past where you saw the same scene of Craig getting Carly's door slammed in his face day after day or you saw Jack and Janet acting like rabbit over and over on Emma's kitchen counters.
Relationships and real stories and real emotion are what people who loves soaps tune in for. If this new direction buys us more of that, then we have a shot at improving and keeping this show on for a long time. As crazy as Jack was when he was waving that gun at Craig and Rosanna, it was a helluva performance and it connected him in with his and Brad's old nemesis Craig, so it all worked for me. Keep it coming . . .
