We'll get the new improved government controlled and taxed version.   I can hardly wait!

They've been chomping at the bit to get control of it for a while now.  And just think!   We'll get to pay taxes on it, just like all the ones on our phone and electric bills!   Do they REALLY think anyone will be able to afford it?

And SUBSCRIPTION PACKAGES like for the satellite TV?   I REALLY can hardly wait!

If anyone's interested, it's on youtube.  I can't remember the guy's name who did the show, but if you put   Death of the Internet in the search, I think it will come up!

Hi Fee, it's always a treat to see a post from you, whatever the subject!  I have heard rumblings of this nature from as far back as 1998, and I am not convinced it is the government so much as the providers themselves who are interested in taking more of our cash.  To be sure, government will want a piece of that pie, but I'm of the opinion it's the folks at AOL, the Bells, Comcast, etc. who want the ala mode.

As with everything, there are many sides to this situation.  Personally, I believe there is much on the internet we could do without.  Additionally, information age notwithstanding, I'd like to see our children spending more time actually interacting with others in person, rather than pressing face to screen, as it were.

If something of this nature does come to pass, you can be sure those who sincerely need/want it will find a way to pay.

  • Thank you! I guess I'm thinking more about the fact of the governmental ''scrubbing'' of the internet, as in censorship! But I will tell you! I never have bought my television in bundles that someone else picks out for me, and I won't do it with the internet either. And I have dropped telephone services and other things for the high cost of government taxing, and I will not be dictated to! We pretty much have freedom on the internet, and I think that they can't tolerate that! They already monitor whatever they want to, telephone, email, buying/spending habits, health, everything. My feeling is that if they don't like what a site has to say, it will be gone. And I'm not talking about sites telling people how to build dirty bombs, or things like that. I'm talking about sites where people exercise free speech. fee
