Seems he was rather embarrassed to have received the award and his own people were surprised. I understand that he may have been awarded the prize for "potential", but I agree with most people who say it's premature. It would be more of an honor if the world thought he deserved it. Even when it was announced, those in the audience seemed aghast. It wasn't just Republicans in the U.S. commenting on the oddness of the award. People around the world shared the thought. Hey, I'm sure there were plenty of Democrats who were shocked as well, but hey -- he got it, so celebrate it.
What I don't understand is how bad were the people who were up against him? Was there nobody in the entire world that didn't do something more tangible for peace than just create a perception? That's just darn sad.

Message: The Nobel Peace Prize people had lost all their credibility for me when the prize was awarded to Yasser Arafat. IMO, the Prize no longer means anything since that time.

My only comment on the award is that I hope he lives up to it. Let the deed follow the thought.
My other thoughts are that I am not sure prominent republicans can rain down any more shame upon their party than they already have. From YOU LIE!, to our country losing an Olympic bid being something to celebrate, and now having our president awarded a Nobel Peace Prize being portrayed as some sort of travesty. Celebrating our losses and booing our wins. We are through the looking glass.

Message: Many Nobel Peace prizes have been awarded to people to honor and encourage their philosophy, efforts and intentions, even though their goals were not yet accomplished. This is far from being unprecedented. Even so, I think Obama's award was a bit premature. But the ludicrous outcry against it, by some of Obama's own countrymen? Disgraceful and humiliating. Those loudmouth sore losers should be ashamed of themselves. I consider Michael Steele to be the worst offender of all.

Message: I think it is a great honor for President Obama and our country. It is my hope that it will be a plus for him in international matters. I've been anxiously watching the debate about Afghanistan. Since my grandson, age 22, is serving his second stint there, I hope he will either put in enough troups to protect our soldiers who are there, or pull them all out. Not anxious to have one of those sitting ducks be my grandson.
