Additional Comments: I look at my pills --- lots of OTC vitamins:  fish oil, CoQ10, magnesium, caltrate, cinnamon to keep blood sugar down.  Does anyone recommend a good OTC multivitamin for women (middle aged)?   I saw a commercial for Centrum Silver. Just trying to cut down on all the pills I swallow.

I take a multivitamin, but don't stick to any particular brand. Just whatever's on sale. I also take fish oil at my doctor's recommendation and calcium with vitamin D. I agree you have to have the vitamin D. I also take Evening Primrose Oil because it is supposed to help with dry skin and I have lived in the desert for many years. I'm not sure it helps, though. BTW, I can't take One A Day vitamins. I just barf them back up. Don't know why.

I use Centrum Silver. I think it's a good one-a-day supplement for older women. Then I add an extra shot of D-3. I can't take calcium supplements so I try to remember to chew a couple of Tums at some point every day (I'm a big milk drinker too). Fish oil - when I see my doctor I get free samples of the prescription-strength fish oil Lovaza - usually enough for a couple of months. When that runs out I take OTC fish oil capsules. That's just three pills plus the Tums - not too bad.

Vit D is a must! It helps calcium absorption. I take Centrum Silver,Fish oil and Niacin to keep cholesterol down, CA and Vit D(I have osteoporosis),Baby aspirin for prevention of heart problems and B12 just for the heck of it! I am a r.ball player and need this wt bearing exercise to keep bones strong. Do Yoga and swim a half mile weekly. At 70 I feel great except for a little arthritis that is taken care of by occasional Aleve.

  • Suellen, do you make sure your vitamin D and B12 are water soluble? Someone told me to be sure and only take water soluble so the excess will be flushed from your body. I also take Centrum Silver and fish oil or Flaxseed oil. I have wanted to take B12 but was afraid of taking too many vitamins. I also take a Cranberry Capsule about every other day. / Sammie
  • SAmmie, what are the cranberry capsules for?/mm
  • Sammie I will call them next week
  • Cranberry is usually taken by those who have frequent urinary infections

I take CoQ10. Fee recommended it to me a few months ago and it has helped my palpitations. I haven't had any since I started it. I also take Centrum Silver. I've also started taking organic apple cider vinegar every day and I seriously feel much better! It has stopped some stomach problems I have had for a long time and I feel better overall and have more energy.

  • I heard that apple cider vinegar
  • I'd like to know how you take it, too. Do you think just apple cider would be as good? I got some great apple cider from Trader Joe's./mm
  • Most people mix it, but I just turn it up and get it over with, lol. It is good for a number of ailments. Roxie

My doctor suggested I save my money on Coq10- she said there is no proven benefit.

I began taking it when my mothers cardiologist recommended she try it along with her cocktail of pills- she had inoperable heart disease by that time and I have always thought there was not much else he could recommend to her at that point, that was the feeling I got. I talked it up and we started taking it together. There was very little that could be done and this made her feel a little better- thinking she was taking this miracle vitamin that might help her.  She always wanted to be sure she had some every day.

  • Mine told me to take CoQ10 along with my cholesterol prescription to help stave off the side effect of stiff muscles. I got off the cholesterol drug and stopped taking the CoQ10 as well. About 2 weeks later, my joints and muscles started aching again, so I went back on the CoQ. So for me, it's working (even if it's just in my head) ~
  • I was kind of surprised my doc had nothing good to say about CoQ10. But you know, I think if a person believes it will do you some good, just believing in it does something positive for you. I know my mother hoped it would help her- I think it made her feel in some small way that she could do something positive about her health. I will probably ignore my doctors advice and continue to blow my money on it :-)./dandyfop
  • I only buy it when there's a BOGO on them in Walgreens or CVS
