Additional Comments: I have a jar of marachino cherries that has been in my fridge for about five years. My husband keeps bugging me about it which is why I won't throw it out.

  • LOL Silver. Have you seen the commercial where the wife is fixing dinner, sweating like a pig, talking to her husband off camera. Then she opens the refrigerator door where her husband is working at a desk and asks isn't it about time they fixed the air conditioner and he says no./mm

A box of baking soda that, sad to say, has probably been sitting in there for two years or more. Not too exciting, but that's the best I've got!

I also have a couple of jars of pickles - not sure how old they are.  Guess I'm just to lazy to clean out the ol' fridge.

It's a tie between a jar of bread and butter pickles, and some odd shaped piece of hard cheese.    But you never know. Maybe some day my life will depend on those two items.

Probably a large jar of green olives from Costco.  I'm pretty good about getting rid of stuff when it gets old.  Just a bit of an aside here, I got an email today that said a woman in I can't remember what state drank a soda from the can and died from some rare disease that had contaminated the can as the cans are stored in warehouses that have rats and it was the rat poop that carried the disease that killed her.  The point was to wash your cans of soda before drinking from them or better yet, buy bottled soda.  I'll recheck the email and be more specific on the disease and state.

  • The disease was leptospirosis and she was from North Texas. J.
  • The story is false although there is a disease one can contract from being near rodent droppings. (the one mentioned above) Whenever I get an ''alarming email'' like that, I always check it's legitimacy on snopes. com. There was no woman in Texas who drank from a soda can and died.
  • Thanks, Tosca. J.

I have a bottle of champagne which must be about 10 years old.It is probably vinegar now LOL. I bought it when I lived in a different apartment and put it in the fridge when I moved and it has been sitting there ever since.

My fridge is just like Emma's it has to be defrosted every couple of months so I can't keep anything else around for a long time.
