Subject: I liked your post, Mandi. It was interesting reading. I am a white democrat and may be voting for McCain. At the beginning of the race I was leaning more towards Hillary, but I was still very interested in Obama. I was starting to lean more towards Obama until the video came out about the Priest's sermon at Obama's church. I could have overlooked what the Priest was saying, but I was appalled at how the church members cheered at what he was saying. The congregation IS the church. I know that Obama did not like what the Priest said, but he did not mention the congregations reaction. I was disappointed in his speech. His concern seemed to be more for his church. I have always respected John McCain so I will be watching and listening very closely to what the two candidates have to say. This is a very important election and race and gender should never have been an issue, and when people go to the polls this fall I hope they vote for the candidate who would make the best president, not their race.

Subject: Hi BB. My family is from Martinsville, Virginia. I was born there, and spent every summer there in my childhood. However, I was raised in Delaware. Instead of dwelling on the past, my parents (my father is now deceased) always told us about their experiences as a way to show how society has changed. We have come a long way from the days when my parents, both teachers with graduate degrees, could work in restaurants where it was illegal for them to eat. (eom) Mandi

Subject: Mandi, I was born in Michigan, but spent summers with my grandparents in Arkansas. This was in the 40s and 50s and I was appauled at how the blacks were treated. I know things aren't perfect, but they have improved a great deal since then. /mm

Subject: BB, I don't know if it was segregated in Delaware. Good question. I do know that slaves were owned here. We moved here from Virginia long after ''legal'' segregation was over. (eom) Mandi
