So has eveyone here given up the hope that Soapnet will do the right thing and bring back AW? I have called them and emailed them and I have even given them ideas of how to promote AW on the network as well. However, I think Soapnet doesn't care about Classic Soaps and their fans anymore. It's a shame because I remember when Soapnet was all about it's fans. Not Anymore! It really is sad to think because they stopped airing AW at such a Very Amazing time in the show's history. I was so excited to have AW back and I always thought that Soapnet was too! So, what would be the next step to get AW back on the air or online at the very least. I was hoping that P&G would step in and start their own Classic Soap Network but that is truly a dream of mine. Is anyone hearing anything on P&G's side and whether or not they have any plans?

They sure don't. Soapnet would rather show you stale straight to video movies on Sundays than ANY soap opera especially Another World.

It isn't up to SoapNet.  P&G has to agree to give them something to air & if they aren't willing, then it doesn't matter what SoapNet wants.  P&G's position, since the day they signed on to end production of the show, has been that there isn't a market big enough for them to bother with.  They could have kept the show going, if they had wanted to.  They could have given SoapNet more material than they did.  Keep in mind, P&G has over 20 soaps that went into production & they could revive any or all of them on cable.  But they don't because they don't see the market being viable/worth their time.  They could also have sold any or all of the titles in that library to interested parties, but instead chose to get parental & decide for everyone that there wasn't a viable future for any of them.

They also could have released boxed sets of soap episodes & even outtakes over the last 30+ yrs.  But they have chosen not to, for the same reason--they don't see the market out here as valueable enough for them to 'bother with'.

  • Geez, I hate being devalued. eom

  • From what Soapnet tells me it was Soapnet's choice to not renew the contract with P&G, not P&G'S! Every person I've talked to from Soapnet says that it was them who pulled the plugged. So, from where I stand it's Soapnet who is betraying it's fans this time!!
  • John: From what I was told by several execs. at the network level & by P&G's own p.r. firm's VP--no one does anything without P&G's permission. They have their own way of writing their contracts & part of that involves not doing anything without express permission from them. It was one of the main reasons that AW wasn't yanked about 11 yrs before it was, because P&G didn't agree to it until '99. If it had been up to NBC, the show wouldn't have been around from the late 80's, rather than '99. I was also told that it wasn't just the way P&G did business w/NBC, it was how they did business w/all their soaps, from the start. SoapNet can spin this any way they want to & maybe they were just more agreeable to it because it was a pain to deal with. But SoapNet wouldn't have gotten ANY episodes to air without P&G's permission either. eom
