Topic: Miracle Hospital ? Friday's show

I think the writers for CBS soaps are obsessed with hearts and heart transplants.  On Guiding Light, I think there were like 3 heart transplants already, and B&B has had Ridge with a heart attack, Taylor with that heart issue, Stephanie with a fake heart attack, and now Katie getting shot in the heart and needing a heart transplant.  On Y&R John Abbott had a heart attack and Brad Carlton also. 

Can't they think of anything else?  There are other medical problems people have.  Although cancer is another one they use often.  But enough with the hearts already!

There are several things that need to match in a heart transplant.  I think size and blood type are two, but I can't remember the others.  It is a little more complicated than transplanting other organx.

That's what I thought too. Also if Storm is found actually DEAD, then he can't be a donor. A person has to living...they can be in a coma or clinically dead ie hooked up to life support. But if you are found dead, the brain stops sending messages, the heart stops pumping blood/oxygen and the organs die! Laura

If he shoots himself in the head, in front of someone, and is brain dead, his heart can be kept alive for a transplant. ''The heart is part of the autonomic nervous system and thus has the ability to beat independently of the brain as long as it has oxygen. The heart will eventually stop beating as all bodily systems begin to stop working shortly after brain death. Once this process has begun, it cannot be reversed. At the time a physician declares brain death, the patient is dead. Mechanical support (a breathing machine) keeps oxygen going to the organs until they can be recovered for transplant. The machine is not keeping the patient alive (brain death is irreversible and is legally and medically recognized as death), it is merely keeping the organs viable until the organs can be recovered.''

I caught that too, about moving Katie ahead of the waiting list (although maybe that happens in emergency situations?)

Anyway, isn't this the same "miracle" hospital that scrambles eggs instead of hard boiling them?
