I believe he's doing just what his dad told him to do...get revenge...and he's pulling out all the stops to get it done; right down to a huge rock on dumb Katie's finger.
He has used the ultimate manipulation tool to make sure that Katie's loyalty is to him and NOT to the Forresters. He's going to end up destroying that girl's relationships with her family because he's going to have her help him destroy her own sisters and their families.
I can see the writing on the wall already...
