I think that several things will come out of Katie's shooting:

Storm will be so guilt riddent that he will confess to shooting Stephanie and be sent to prison.
Stephanie will also be sent away for her part in the cover up/conspiracy (this will facilitate her leaving (my speculation only.)
Nick will move Katie in to his house to take care of her and they will fall in love.
Ashley & Katie will form a deep bond and friendship.
Bridgette will continue to ignore what is going on right under her nose, thinking that Nick is just a good guy for taking care of her aunt. Once again, she will be devestated when she finds out they have fallen in love. She will turn evil.
Stephen Logan will return to town and fight Rick for Taylor's affections.

Just one big flaw: if Stephanie is sent away for her part in the coverup, then what about the Logan sisters? They ORCHESTRATED the coverup!

I think Storm will definitely go away for the shooting of Stephanie but I'm not so sure Stephanie's absence will be tied to the shooting. If she leaves, I think it will be in an effort to start a new life without Ear Wax.

I definitely agree that Katie's shooting will result in Nick rushing to her bedside and then insisting she come to ''recouperate'' with him and Jack. Blech!
