Topic: The Hospital Scenes Are Totally Unrealistic.

Additional Comments:

First off let me compliment Heather Tom for her superb acting.  It's about time this actress got to do something other than being in every one else's shadow on this show.

Secondly, the hospital scenes are ridiculous, unrealistic and ludicrous.  There is NO WAY that all the yelling, begging, arguing and hysteria would be going on in the ICU of a new heart recipient.  There is no way that Katie would have been told from day one that Storm was dead and she has his heart!  First off, the heart meds and pain pills would have kept her probably asleep or half asleep for the first three or four days.  Second she would have had a nurse at her side 24-7 for the first two days.  She would be on all kinds of machines and it would have been made PERFECTLY CLEAR that she was to be under absolutely no stress or pressure of any kind whatsoever.  Laying in that bed the first two days after her transplant, with the room full of people, her sisters wailing and talking to her none stop and then Donna giving Katie he!! for not being ecstatic because she now has Storms heart is so unbelievable and absurd that it's like watching the Wizard of Oz.  The only realistic thing about these ridiculous hospital scenes is Heather Tom's acting.

And third, why doesn't Brooke just tell Katie that since Storm shot Stephanie, and then accidently shot her and she would have died, that he would have been headed for a life sentence in prison?  Something he would have never been able to deal with and that his suicide was two fold.  One, to not spend the rest of his life behind bars, and two, to give Katie her life back because he almost took it and would have, had he not done the right thing by giving Katie his heart, instead of continuously pushing the "gift" in Katie's face when she doesn't want to hear that.  Storm knew his life was over, one way or the other, so he took the only way out by killing himself so Katie could live.  This is what airhead's Brooke and Donna should be telling Katie. Maybe this would be easier for Katie to accept.

And fourth Donna going on with her wedding to Eric when her brother just killed himself and isn't even buried yet and her sister is in the ICU in the hospital with a two day heart transplant. If this whole thing wasn't so stupid it would be funny.  JMHO.

In case anyone's interested, no you know why I have quit watching.

After those scenes in the ICU?  I couldn't stand to watch anymore, for all of the reasons stated in this post.

I probably will still come to the Board, so I can tell when all of this craziness is over.  But, right now, I have stopped taping this ridiculous show.

Druna, Glad you posted this.  I've posted some comments previously about how unrealistic the ICU scenes are.  You are right that none of this drama would ever, ever, ever occur in RL at a hospital.  It sure makes the medical and nursing staff look bad and it makes me sick to watch it.

I think Brooke did tell her all of that!

  • No, she didn't. There was no talk to Katie of Storm facing jail time. ~i&b

While I totally agree with all your points, especially this *wedding before a funeral* bull$hit, I think the hospital scenes are the most realistic I have ever seen on a soap. I have been very impressed with the REAL hospital. I haven't seen that done on any other soap and it's great!

  • Well, I agree that it does look like a 'real' hospital and it may be, and HT's acting is superb, but in a 'real' hospital room of a heart recipient none of what has been going on with Katie would ever happen in a million years! Even when Katie started to reject Storm's heart and the doctor and nurse came in, the crowd of 'visitors' would have been asked to leave, not all stand around oooing and aaaaing, crying and yelling at Katie and hovering over the bed. It was ridiculous. Several years ago my husband was in the hospital having had a double by-pass, which is very serious but nothing compared to a heart 'transplant'. He was in the ICU for two days on a couple big machines and when he was moved to a room he could only have one visitor at a time. He was also on pain pills and groggy for the first few days. His surgery was over by 9:00 AM and he remembers 'nothing' about the entire first day and very little about the second. I know soaps aren't real life and it's acceptable to hurry things along at times, but the drama going on in Katie's room from day one was WAY over the top.
  • Roxie, see inside. I keep typing in the wrong place. J.
  • I think the hospital scenes have been completely absurd. Nothing realistic whatsoever. ~i&b
