Topic: what was with the Soul thing today

Additional Comments: you might personally believe that, but as a Dr. it just seemed odd for him to say that. *Let us reflect on what we are about to do, the heart is the nearest address we have for the human soul. When it stops, the soul is homeless and and it moves on.*

Sounded more like a sermon from church! Just too odd and too much, LOL

Was that Bridget in there? She sure moves fast!

It was entirely for dramatic effect.  As someone who has been in health care for 50 years, it's hard for me to believe that something like this could happen in RL.  I've never seen it and I've been in the O.R. many times.

I didn't think it sounded at all like church stuff; it sounded new age to me.  But it was a very lovely thought.   And when you're doing something like that, I see nothing wrong with nice thoughts!   I DO see it wrong, though, to be telling it to the patient's NIECE who is scrubbed across the patient from me!    STUPID!

  • They should of been burning incense and rubbing crystals together! I get the feeling behind it, but it was too much like they wanted to paint Katie as a Angel!!~~Bonk~~

I guess I'm in the minority here. I thought it was a nice way to show that some Dr.s believe there is a higher power directing their hands while they are operating. jmo

  • There's no time for speeches in a transplant situation. The idea is to get that organ into a body as quickly as possible before the organ deteriorates. ~i&b
  • for a soap opera it was a nice touch but in RL and as a nurse, doesn't happen, those transplant teams get scrubbed and get to work, cause time is of the essence......
  • Sometimes I foget its a soap opera and they can take liberties with these things, but too me it was goofy! ~~Bonk~
  • I thought it was goofy, too. Was this the dr's first transplant? Doubt they make these kind of speeches in RL. Probably are more like my dentist - she and her assistant talk about books, movies, shopping, troubles with mommie - like I'm not even there.

I didn't like that at ALL, and I am not at all anti-spiritual/Christian.  But it seemed completely out of left field and innappropriate to have the doctor, of all people, make some kind of bizarre sermon before this emergency surgery.  Do they even have time for that?  And then that final comment he made, after the "light" flashed over him when the surgery was done and successful, was just as out of place.

That "speech" should have been by a family member in the waiting room.
