Topic: Just to Clarify: WHY i think Drake's been superb as Nujohn

Its how many things he's brought to the character in his developing of him...

First, he went from intensely on edge 24/7 to balancing it with a more controlled neurotic side...and his obvious lack of any kind of social skill or any basic couth in human interaction on the simplest level has been hysterical...his struggles with his social cluelesness have been a great adding in of humor on drake's part.

Then...the physical aspects...the facial tics...the bobbing back and forth of his head...its like his neck is a swivel...the constant rolloing around of his eyes in their sockets...the unfocused gaze...the weird grins in completely inappropriate situations (gotta be drake improvising)...him unsteadily waltzing around as the very essence of a half-crazed lunatic on his last legs...

I just think they are all brilliant acting choices and additions to the character that he's brought...

Change is good!

I like New John, I'm not necessarily thinking Drake's acting has improved, but he can fake it better being New John.

The Old John, and I paraphrasing the post below, was too arrogant. New John is a bit arrogant, but he is nothing to his former self.

Plus, I like how this New John struggles and is not perfect. In addition, he is not all slobering over Marlena; that alone is a bonus.

There is such a thing as good change & bad change. Most of the changes that have happened to Days over the last 20+ yrs, under KC, have been horrible. They haven't been changes that bettered the show & improved on the foundation his parents created. He has made buffoons of the foundation characters, going so far as to ship them off to 'Fantasy Island' locations & leaving their brains there! He has overplayed the whole DiMera thing & had most of them overstay their welcome by a couple of decades. The quality of the storytelling has sunk SO low that it is, for many longtime fans, unwatchable! KC, for the most part, has made virtually no GOOD changes, over the long haul. eom

There are a quit of few people(me included) who hated arrogant i'll save Salem John. But this NuJohn has won alot of people not just on this board but on the other boards i post on as well. I really truely like this NuJohn. And somehow hope they keep this NuJohn, even thou I know Stefano is going to once again try to reprogram him. I don't ever want to see the "old John" again. But good job to Drake, I am impressed.
