Additional Comments: Why is her surname Layton, and Trent and Max used to have the surname Becker. Even if Trent changed his to Robbins for whatever reason, why has it not been addressed, and why is Melanie neither a Becker nor a Robbins?

Someone suggested that Trent may not have married her mother, probably a Layton still to appear, as the killer.

Since Nicole never mentions a step-daughter in relation to her marriage to Trent, then Melanie came along after Nicole left him. So ... if Trent was married to Melanie's mother, then either it was legal, and Nicole doesn't owe Victor a dime; or else Trent's marriage to Melanie's mother was invalid.

That may be why Melanie's surname is different from Trent's and Max's---Melanie is what the Victorians used to call a ''byblow.''

Nevertheless, much as I despise Nicole as a character (and LOVE Ariane Zucker's work!), it would be fun to see Nicole ending up owing nothing to Victor after all.
