Topic: coat-cute or ugly-no I have not bought it

Topic Posted by: Lisa P
Date Posted: Sat Apr 26 22:40:22 2008
Additional Comments: I have lost so much weight none of my jackets fit me. I look like I am wearing grandpa's coat. I am looking for a new coat, but there are not a lot out there due to the season. What do you think of this one?
Thanks :-)

I like the top one.  If you're short-waisted like me, the belt is in the right place.

I don't like the fur on the bottom one (fake or not, it still looks like a dead critter).  Plus, after a season or two it always starts to look ratty.  JMHO.

  • I ended up ordering the bottom on. It was fully lined where the top one is not. Plus, I have had this brand with the fake fur before and I have never had a problem with it looking bad. If you clean the jacket the faux fur stays looking good. Lisa P

It's cute; I've seen it in the catalog before.  VS has a lot of cute jackets/coats.

I must say, I find it totally depressing that you are jacket shopping now!  It's 80 degrees here today.  I laid out by the pool yesterday.

  • That was my problem with it. I also think the belt would drive me nuts. Lisa P
  • That's what I was thinking. I am short, so it might be in the right place on me! I think I like #2 better. I want warm weather. I am sick of being cold. cc

If it were me, I'd buy them both. The one looks heavier/warmer than the other so they would be for their own time and they both look GREAT!!!

  • The bottom one is more me (honestly). I also know that brand very well so It will be comfy. Lisa P

Lisa, I like the bottom one the best, it is longer, but it may be too warm for spring, it is more like a winter jacket I think,

I just bought this one for spring...

it also has a belt with it, not shown in the pic.

  • ps...I bought it at macys, last time I shopped over the border. eom -Nicki
  • I don't want a cool spring jacket yet. It's too cold. I want to replace my warmer ones. That second one is a warmer one and would go with most of my clothes :-) Btw, your spring jacket is super cute. Lisa P

I like them both, but I would have to try them on. I have found that coats with furry collars like that always bug me when I actually wear them. If the top one isn't tacked down in some way, the big flaps of the collar might flip around if it is windy. I have a jacket like that and it bugs me. I like the fit of the light tan one, but I don't love the collar. I like jackets that tie at the waist. I saw a really cute spring jacket at TJ Maxx last night I wanted to get but Dave was with me and he was impatient.

  • I like the faux fur. It does not bother me at all. The two that I just donated both had it :-) Lisa P
  • that's cool. I have had a couple, and the furry part always rubs my chin/neck and bothers me. I almost bought one similar to the top one for Maya for next year because it was on clearance, but it didn't have a hood and she likes to have hoods on her coats in winter.

I hardly wear jackets unless its really cold. Even then I mostly wear a soft fleece type or a sweater. I do have a blazer tweed type of jacket. Couple of heavy coats if we go to the snow.
I like the first one you posted. Check out LLbean, they have good deals now for winter clothes.

I like the first one better.  I do not like tight fitting jackets though.  I prefer them to be big and loose on me.

    Replies: (list all replies)

  • I like them fitted. They look frumpy on me if they are too big. Thanks for your input. Lisa P
  • Well, they probably look frumpy on me too. But I don't care. Comfort is what I look for in most everything. If it is not comfortable, I will not wear it. UGH! I remember as a teen having to use tweezers through the hole of the zipper flop to zip tight pants. NO WAY would I do that now! It I do not have at least a 1/2 inch gap, can squat with no binding, bend over with no binding, no way no how! And I do not want my jackets and sweaters to form fit either. I feel they are warmer if they are looser.
  • I don't wear things that tight :-) Lisa P
  • Oh, I KNOW you don't! I don't either. I did when I was in high school. Everyone wore tight pants. Can not believe that I did. It was totally stupid! Now, I wish I could find clothes that would not even have to touch me!

You crack me up with the jackets. I do not have stylish jackets at all, but I also rarely wear one, so it doesn't matter. :)

  • Thanks :-) I wear a jacket every single day until July/August. Mine are all swimming on me. I need to email you. I have been so horrible about keeping in touch lately. Lisa P
