Topic: You guys are gonna think I'm nuts but.....

Additional Comments: Do you have a secret code word or phrase that you can say if you are being held against your will (and allowed to answer the horn)? Some word to alert your loved one that you are in danger so they can buzz the fuzz? Bear with me here - I just called Ken at work and he sounded tense. I know there was someone there because he couldn't talk. Where he works, strange people come in, and there was a time when someone threatened to kill the boss over a car deal. So, I was thinking, if he is ever in trouble, he could say a word or a phrase and I could call the cops and have them go there. LOL! OK, I know I sound paranoid, but better safe than sorry! Have you ever set something up like this?

I think it sounds like a good idea.  I don't think you're nuts.  I have a code word with daughter, but not with anyone else.  If I ever get stuck & can't get to her & have to send someone else, she knows it's legit if they have the code.  Now, I read an article by an ex-con/child molester.  He said secret codes were useless, that he could have the code word out of a kid in minutes.  Scary.  I think I will get something for mrcc & for my mom & stepdad.

Wow! My mom and i have always had a code word like that. Funny thing, it involves talking about my grandmother (like the radio show hosts mentioned--in a prior post). We agreed to speak of her as if she were still alive and that is our "clue". never had to use it but i am CERTAIN she would get it and call the brigade to check on me!!! Cool topic.

I think that's a great idea.   A code word or phrase worked into a conversation to alert you to call the police.   When my girls were younger we had code words.   They were to never go with anyone who did'nt know our code.  Thank goodness we never had to use it.  Meme can check in and tell me if I'm correct but I think she had one for Blakeman also.  TAB

I live alone and sometimes go to a friend's house and come home late at night.

She is always telling me to call when I get home, safe and sound.  And if I don't she will call me.

I always tell her I am fine but we did make up a "code" in case I am not.  I was supposed to say that my old boyfriend was here.  It was funny because he is married and should not be here.  If he ever is..............and I say he is.............she will probably call the cops for sure!

  • LOL! Lexie, thats a good one!! Use it. I agree that you should always call her when you arrive home. I'm one that worries all the time about those I love. Remember when my dad insisted on driving mom to radiation treatments? OMG! I was SO concerned that if they didn't call me, I'd pace the floor! Kat
  • I have to tell you - this is so cute!! When my grandmother was alive and she still drove, she had this cute older lady friend named Clara. They would go out to dinner together and when Grandma dropped Clara off at her house (she lived alone) they would both search the house together! HAH! They would look in the closets and think - if we found a man in the closet, we wouldn't know what to do with him anyway!! LOL! Kat

Some guys were discussing this on the radio the other day.

A wife saw an epi of Law and Order where a man wanted to kill this lady's husband. He broke into their home and ordered her to call her husband home. He came home and was killed.......this led radio guy's wife to pause the show and tell him they needed a code word if they were ever in this situation. They must have spent 15min discussing this on the radio and could never come up with anything that could be worked into normal conversation and not arouse suspicion.....it was hilarious to listen to all of the things they were coming up with.....

Ken's situation is different because he could easily say something to you about a certain "dead" relative coming over for dinner that nite....you would definitely know something was not quite right..........t

  • Wow, the listeners and the dj's were that stupid, lol? How about instead of saying I love you, say, I love you SO MUCH or I love you TO DEATH or some stupid lovey, lovey thing that you normally don't say to each other, lol. People need to not try so dang hard. cgem eom
  • Yes, I'm thinking of him saying something like - tell George I'll see him later.....We don't know anyone named George. Cgem is right - anything that is OFF can tip someone on the line that there is trouble...Kat
