Subject: I didn't see Obama's constant agreeing with McCain as strategic, I thought it made Obama look weak, like he thought McCain's ideas were better than his own. I didn't see the 'presidential' Obama that other people saw, either. I though his interruptions of McCain were rude, and I loved that McCain just kept right on talking through, not allowing Obama to cut him off. When Obama interrupted, I couldn't help but think of how it reminded me of a little kid that interrupts his parent while the parent is talking on the phone. The ultimate blunder on Obama's part had to be the 'I've got a bracelet, too!' remark, then looked down at it, nervously trying to read the name. Bad move on his part. I thought all-in-all that McCain seemed the stronger debater of the two, as he was able to visibly get under Obama's skin on more than one occasion. I also noticed that at the end, Obama didn't look as satisfied with his performance, when greeting his wife, as McCain did. Just my two cents.

Subject: to tell you the truth, I could not tell if they were suppose to do that or not, (jump in with their thoughts) bc Lehrer kept telling them to talk to each other. I guess like RK said it is the real way to debate but we and I guess the 2 candidates are so used to the question and answer type of debates they did not know which way to go. ~~

Subject: Yeah, I thought the ''I've got a bracelet, too,'' thing was ill-conceived, too. I was getting a kick out of obama agreeing with him...especially after McCain went on a roll with the names of world leaders. By just saying, ''I agree,'' Obama didn't have to try to pronounce those names. Although in a venue like that, you really couldn't blame someone for slipping over a name or two...can't imagine all the things flying through their minds during those 90 minutes...eom (ML)

Subject: Bonk, I think Lehrer wanted them to address one another, but that does not mean being rude and cutting the other debater off in mid-sentence. There were many instances where Obama was just plain rude in that respect. If he was so confident in what he had to say, he would have allowed McCain to finish his sentences, IMO.

Subject: I thought Obama's bracelet response was completely appropriate. McCain tries to act like he has the market cornered on patriotism. He went on and on about his bracelet, so it made sense for Obama to point out McCain is not the only one. I didn't think Obama looked nervous at all. He had just been given the bracelet at his last campaign appearance and he glanced down and said the name of the soldier. It was an important point for Obama to make in light of McCain's going on as if he's the only person in America who wears one. ~i&b

Subject: I agree with Ingy. It was appropriate for Obama to mention he had one also or else it would come across that only McCain cares about the veterans. Also, he did know the soldier's name. Both of the candidates were nervous and misprounced names now and then. Totally understandable. I'm impressed they can say the foreign leader's names. eom-shar

Subject: I guess it depends upon the lens through which you view something. Through my lens...he read the guy's name on the bracelet. Then again, he had a lot of things on his mind....eom (ML)

Subject: It's really fascinating to me how everyone has a different *take* on the debate, debending on how the person is voting for. eom-shar

Subject: *McCain tries to act like he has the market cornered on patriotism*. Why would you say that? Where have you seen him act as if he thinks he is superior because he served in Vietnam? Yes, he is proud of his service, and he should be...I would be too, if I survived what he went through. I think you're projecting a behavior on McCain that isn't there. *He went on and on about his bracelet...* Exaggerate, much? On and on..hardly. He talked about it that one time. Obama's effort at one upsmanship fell flat and made him look ridiculous. One pundit even said it was reminiscent of H. W. Bush's faux paux in the 92 debate when he looked down at his watch. You want to know something? The mother of the soldier wasn't happy that Obama mentioned the bracelet or her son during the debate. But you won't hear THAT anywhere in the mainstream media because they all love Barack.

Subject: Oh, ML...he definitely read the name. Hello? If he knew it, he wouldn't have paused, looked down, and then stammered out the name. McCain said his soldier's name without skipping a beat.

Subject: Lurker, that is not true that the mother of the soldier was not happy that Obama mentioned her son's name. I'm from Wisconsin and there was an article about her in our paper. After she gave the braclet to Obama, she emailed his campaign and asked that he not mention it at campaign stops. However, she was quite pleased with how he brought up her son's name and in the debate. I just read that last night. eom-shar
