Topic: Its Been a Couple Weeks Now...Your Impressions of JJ as Lucky?
I like stars.
Well, here is what I what think bout it:
It is very obvious that young man grew quite a bit as an actor in his years away.
I have been more impressed than I had thought what i would be.
To me, the main difference between JJ and Mr Gregory Vaughn that still bothers me is the PHYSICAL difference.
The other dude was built and tall and all that and i totally like bought him as a Bad-A$$ Cop.
This young lad, however (JJ) is a very very slight-of-frame young lad and Id laugh at him if he tried to rrest me.
But, the guy he replaced could probably have beated me up real bad if Id laughed at HIM.
Ya know?
You follow me?

Totally back on the Lucky train with JJ now. GV just didn't have JJ range and the writers had to do things with Lucky that they would not have done with JJ. SB (Jason) plays off JJ in a really interesting way. They actually engage and more emotion is coming from SB. AG is also picking it up with JJ and going deeper again. The way AG was playing Luke had become so surface like he was without a teather. Now I hope to see more JJ interaction with Lulu and hope that JJ gets her acting level up as well. Seems they all try harder in their scenes with JJ more then they did with GV. With GV is was kind of like let's hurry up and get through this...IMO

Message: I just hope that TPTB make Lucky intelligent again. I like GV, but he was horribly miscast as Lucky & more to the point, the character was unbelieveable w/the lousy storytelling/writing. I never bought Lucky as a cop, period. He wouldn't have strayed THAT far from his upbringing.
I could have believed the character as a private detective or even the house detective at his cousin Carly's hotel. But the character was SO dumbed down he wasn't REALLY Lucky at all, unfortunately for GV who got stuck w/the dumbed down version.

Hi, I've recently returned just to watch JJ again as Lucky. Great to see him again, not so much Sonny, Carly, Sam, and the writers. So much violence and ugliness, more affairs of the heart, please. I wish Jason would get amnesia again and become appalled at the company he's been keeping, they make the Qs look like angels IMO.

JJ was such an awesome actor as a child and/teen. He really was quite talented for his young age. Unfortunately, I'm not feeling it this time around with JJ as I did years ago. He's still a good actor, but he just doesn't impress me to be any better than the rest of the cast, JMO.
Lucky matured into a man when GV portrayed him, and we saw him for the past six years as the adult version of Lucky. His strong masculine look made him believable as a cop, a lover and husband to Liz, and father to her children.
I don't mean to bash JJ, but to this day he still looks like he's not much older than a teenager, and he appears to be too wimpy and soft spoken to be a cop. I loved the chemistry he once had with RH when they were teenagers. As a couple, their young love was romantic in a ''sweet'' way, but as an adult, he does not even look like he's in the same league as Lizzy. He looks more like a younger brother to her, especially when you compare him to all the other men she's been involved with in a relationship.

Message: It's odd as the character has gone thru changes that JJ wasn't there for. What's getting on my last is his head shaking. I noticed it yesterday, when talking to Liz before he *shot* Nick, and then today to arrest Dad. I LOVE that he's back, but not to the extent if they *screwed* Greg.

I was doubtful at first that JJ could step back into the role of Lucky, as that character has changed (and aged) since JJ first portrayed him as a kid.But... I have been pleasantly surprised, and find myself warming up to his version of Lucky. He seems to connect better with actors he is in a scene with.Love him with TG and find I liked him quite a bit in his scenes with Jason. These two characters have quite a bit of history. For one thing, Lucky is now raising Jason’s son as his own, so it was good to see JJ help the audience feel that connection. In my humble opinion he did that with good acting - it was simply felt – and didn’t need to be said.
I still do not like seeing JJ with Elizabeth; frankly he looks too young to be romantically involved with her.It is my hope they will pair him with someone else.

Message: I like this Lucky, but he is not believable as a cop. He looks too young. I loved GV and his Lucky, but also like JJ. But when he is in his cop mode, I don't find him compelling. I am sure Lucky will get the storyline written from his POV, regarding Niz. As long as he is not a cop, I am ok with it. In his scenes with Jason, I didn't like Lucky almost defending Jason's choices. I know that Jason is king on this show, but at least the cops should be spared from accepting his choices. I actually don't want a buddy type of relationship between Lucky and Jason. They both have reason to dislike each other, not the least of which is the whole Cop/Mobster dynamic. They should never be friends.

Message: I loved all the Lucky's. But I am very partial to the original actor, JJ. Just like Robin, I feel I watched him grow up. It doesn't matter to me about the physical appearance changes because thats what you get with soaps. Look at Michael. Even int he flashbacks with Jason, the little baby had red hair, and my favorite Michael had red hair and then they go and change the actor to someone very different physically. The same with Carly. To me its not the appearance so much as its the direction and make-up of the character I don't want change. And so far, GH has done a good job with being consistent with the characters. Although I wish I could see the little red headed Mikey play this part today.

I couldn't care less about his height and size. Robert Redford is 5'5". Many famous male actors are short and play strong male lead roles and even bad guy roles. It's all in the delivery. Luke and Jason happen to be taller than usual.
His voice is very soft but I like the fact he can convey many feelings without shouting. More importantly, JJ gives Lucky back the IQ that GV and the writing removed.
SqueezeMe mentioned it and I'll elaborate even more on what I see happening to Lucky's character. Yes, Jason showed far more respect than he ever did to old Lucky.
New Lucky is less apt to be so reactionary like Mac and old Lucky. He also seems less concerned with competing with Jason.
I see Lucky moving on from the dreaded job that ruins characters at the PCDC. Maybe he'll get into PI work? Or make ammends with Luke. Hook up with Maxie again? I have a feeling LizNik will compell him into a new line of work and give him a new edge.

JJ is very talented, and he's giving a first rate performance. He's just so very different, it's like watching a new character. I like the ''new'' character, he just doesn't jibe with Lucky. However, I will say that I sensed real respect from Jason when I didn't see that with Lucky before. But there's a surprising lack of chem between Lucky and Luke. It's a mixed bag I guess. I like JJ, but I agree that Lucky needs to be more of a physical threat. I've been wondering if his new renegade attitude is a setup to de-cop him. I could go for that.

Message: GV shouted every line or tossed it off to his screen partners with angry. JJ gives me a full range of emotions, so it is no contest that I prefer JJ. The physical differences and "buying Lucky as a cop" don't matter at all to me. It's a soap--if I'm told this one's a cop and this one's a billionaire, I suspend my disbelief.

Message: I follow you! For me, the difference is physical too. I don't buy JJ as a cop. He's not big enough. Maybe he'd be okay as an undercover cop. A few days ago JJ was leaning over the table interviewing Jason at the PD. Even though he was being forceful, I smiled because it was obvious that Jason could knock him down with his little finger. Also, about his voice. It seems a little bit in the high range. GV's voice could be deep and mean, but when JJ tries that he sounds comical.

Message: I LOVE JJ and now, Lucky again. Everything about Lucky is so much more interesting to me. I thought GV was pretty to look at, but he put me to sleep every minute of every day he was onscreen.
