Additional Comments: I really miss the soap "Another World." That was a true soap and very entertaining. Felitia Gallant, Cass Winthrop aka Crystal Lake, Rachel Corey, Mac Corey and the whole gang. Oh, and the twins played by Ann Heche and then there was Jake. Who else misses that soap?

I loved AW. Had 2 of my all time favorite characters on it: Felicia Gallant and Cass Winthrop.

I also loved Ryan's Hope - I know it used to be rerun on Soapnet (like AW), but I haven't seen it televised for quite some time now.

I think my favorite soap-that-is-no-longer was Santa Barbara. One of the reasons I started watching GH again was when Nancy Lee Grahn joined years ago. I absolutely LOVED her character on SB - Julia Wainwright Capwell. And I must add SB had a couple other all time favorite characters of mine: Mason Capwell and Keith Timmons.

  • Santa Barbara was my all time favorite too, and I started watching GH again when NLG came on, and in Alexis Cassadine we had another memorable strong woman character played by Nancy. I actually think you could trace the decline in viewers and the destruction of GH by following the devolution of Alexis into a simpering, mob-worshiping stuttering fool (although Nancy played what she was given brilliantly)... Why the bozos at ABC think strong, modern women want to watch brainless bimbos is beyond me... or maybe they work out their women hatred by demeaning women in that way, who knows? Felicia was another fantastic female character.. but there were many back in the days when lots and lots of woman watched soaps, and I have a feeling lots and lots of women would return to watching soaps if there were more strong, compelling women characters played by brilliant actresses that are still out there and unemployed. • My all-time fave soap was GH in the Golden era, but when L&L left, it was definitely SB, the most intelligent, fun, witty, engaging soap ever. My two most fave male characters were Luke and then Mason and my fave female characters were Laura, then Julia/Alexis. And also Harley Kozak as Mary on SB. Harley is now writing fun mystery books in a style that reminds me of SB scripts! GHFan

I was just thinking of AW the other day.  I miss it too.  I guess what it has to with GH is that Disney cancelled the AW reruns on Soapnut... and I have always believed that they did not want us to compare the ABC soaps they ruined to a really great classic  soap so we would forget what we were missing.  I know at one point I was only watching AW, and now I am totally ABC free, refusing to watch anything on this network because of so many bone-headed cancellations.  Not watching any of the soaps on ABC did the trick because I never see any ads for any of their shows.  I have been a rabid ABC fan for over 30 years.  I wonder if the rapid decline in their soap viewing audiences lately will affect their night time schedule?  I never realized how much watching the ABC soaps kept me tuned to ABC all these years!

  • I'm not sure the excecs realize it either. Watching soaps on one network, does keep a viewer tuned in to that network most of the day. I realized that when I was so addicted to GH many years ago. These days though, I seldon watch network prime time anyway. Reality show bore me to tears, sitcoms have turned vulgar and nasty, and all the investigative reporting stuff seems phoney, so I often read in the evening or watch old movies on TCM. I was a big fan of Men In Trees, but ABC apparently didn't like that show and killed it by moving it every couple months or pre-empting it so much you wondered if it was canceled. I wish someone would explain why ABC disliked that show so much. GHFan
  • Hi. I did not realize you were another MIT fan. ABC under Disney has irked me no end with their mindless programming stunts, but the cancellation of MITs was the final straw for me. It is like somebody worked really hard to make that show a failure so they could cancel it. I am in the process of watching the MITs episodes I had saved on DVR ... sorta saying goodbye, and as I was enjoying some of these episodes for the 3rd or 4th time (and I never watch reruns of shows, even ones I liked a lot) I too wondered again why this show was cancelled. Disney even took down the message board at ABC while other cancelled shows at ABC still have theirs. Sadly, I am starting to wonder if there will even be a DVD. I had been saving my DVR recordings until one came out, but since I am not watching that much TV now, I am ready to downsize my cable and give up my DVR and let go. Just erased Charity Case (Cash for Cash) and it was very hard ... because frankly watching it again was still entertaining ...... a rare commodity on TV these days. So I am like you... doing a lot of reading in the evenings ... so I guess Disney did us a favor by driving us away! Thalia

I miss it alot! But now I have OLTL, which has great things going for it. Try it. You'll like it.
GH, however, still has the mob and Sonny, so until that changes, there is little to say about it--just feel sad you have to see it go down the drain.

What does that have to do with GH?!

  • Several of the actors on AW also did other soaps, ABC/Disney soaps among them. Jensen Buchanan (the last Vicki) was on OLTL prior to AW & on GH (briefly) afterwards. eom
