A topic above asks in what universe would a show not beg to have Genie Francis. So true. How about this? Another soap that is smart enough to realize her value hires her. Laura could re-awaken without anyone knowing and "escape" from the hospital. She would be confused and not know her true identity. She ends up in another town (Landview?) and becomes a character there with a mysterious past. I don't know if there would be laws about infringing on GH's rights to her "Laura" name, but they could get around that by never mentioneing it directly, but instead just make allusions to her past in little glimpses of memory that she would have. I, for one, would leave GH and watch whatever new show she would go to. All GH fans would know who she really is.

Well, I said it was crazy. LOL.

I myself would like the idea very much, but the truth is that both of the other ABC shows have their fill of 'older' actresses to either keep busy or let go. That's it.  To the suits it isn't about how good Genie is, and to us it isn't a matter of how old she is.  AMC hardly has been able to keep their star, Susan Lucci, awake with a good story for several years.  The character of Opal is seldom seen, and even Bobbie Eakes is now kept pretty much to one or two appearances per week.  I'd rather see Genie go to OLTL, because they don't seem so terrified of people who have passed the age of forty, but they do have a lot of them.  Everybody who's a good actor should be working somewhere in something we would like to watch, but it hardly ever happens.  I am so ready for Genie to find another character to play!  I really shudder at the prospect of her appearing for a couple of weeks only in order to shore up the rep of Julie, or the character she plays, Loolooo.  And I think that's about the idea that someone got.  Bring her on, to make us go awww when we see poor Looloo suffering guilt because she just sort of accidently ran a knife into the innards of one of her discarded boyfriends.  If Julie had been given the stuff, she might have engaged my pity or interest, but they've made her a twit and now it's sort of bad for her on the message boards because to the viewers she has become poison.  I'd rather see the Laura character do something besides be a mother to her charmless chicks.

Oh, that's right; there have been several cross-over stories on ABC. I took a long hiatus from GH (switched to GL), so I missed all of those.

Isn't that pretty much what they did with Anna Devane when she was on All My Children?

ABC may own the name & it wouldn't be a bad idea for a crossover storyline, but soaps (particularly ABC/Disney owned) haven't been doing well w/the crossover storylines they've attempted in the fairly recent past.  That is unfortunate.  There was a time when it was pretty routine for crossovers to happen between AMC & OLTL--since they are produced in NYC.  Back 'in the day' they did some excellent ones, frequently w/Paul Martin & Linc Tyler.  They also had a community between Llanview & Pine Valley where a lot of the teens would 'escape' to from time to time & crossover.

Today's storytellers (I use the term loosely) just haven't been doing crossovers well, so a lot of people--both execs & fans--tend to think that they don't inherently work, which isn't true.  Good storytellers can make it work well!

ABC owns all its soaps: GH, OLTL and AMC. You actually have a pretty smart idea. Let Laura wake up, be confused with memory loss and escape the hospital. She wanders around and arrives on either AMC or OLTL, both are shot in New York. The character of Skye was on AMC but then moved to GH. Anna Devaine (sp?) is a GH character but moved to AMC for a while. I think the Skye move from AMC to GH was more succesful and believable than the Anna move from GH to AMC. Just my opinion.

I bet if it was an ABC soap--since ABS owns GH--tbere would not be a problem.  That would be awesome and I bet if it was a NY based soap she would be able to commute with no problem from where she lives in Maine.  Could work--who knows--stranger things have been known to happen in the soap world!
