Additional Comments: I haven't watched in a very long time, but is Genie Francis still on the show? If so, is Laura still married to Luke?

It was a real shame that TPTB (Corp) teased everyone (cast, crew & the audience) w/GF's return. Everyone thought this was going to be a longterm return, but it was not to be.

What bothered me about the reference last week to Laura's breakdown was the blame placed on Luke. Laura lived a very emotionally chaotic life long before Luke came into her life!

She found out that the family she had always known wasn't her family, got taken from them & was forced to live w/a step-father (Cam Faulkner) who didn't want her around.

She was manipulated & seduced into a relationship w/David Hamilton, whom she later killed. Lesley took the blame for David's death, for quite awhile.

Laura got involved w/Scotty when she was still emotionally fragile & married him, which was a mistake. Then she met Luke, was raped, THEN the mob life became her's.

She was terrorized, kidnapped & terrorized again, by Helena Cassadine for yrs. She found out that Stafan (the one Cassadine she trusted) kept her mother drugged & hidden for the better part of 20 yrs.

Luke & Laura were on the run for over 10 yrs. They had their diner bombed & were back on the run again. Laura later killed one (or was it two men) who came to her house to kill (if memory serves) the Spencers.

Her life w/Luke contributed to it, but IMO, Laura would have had a breakdown whether Luke had been part of her life or not. I'm surprised it didn't happen earlier!

And what brought on the breakdown was her thinking she killed Rick, her stepfather! I say thinking, because they were on the brink of a new mystery about Laura when it was apparently decided not to bring Genie back on the show. I hate all this. Laura embraced adventure with Luke almost from the beginning. She was good at it, could assume disguises, identities, and thought it was fun. When Claire Labine was writer, she made Laura more settled, more of a haus fra, and pointed up the difference in Luke and Laura's natures, but these two were really a perfect match in many ways. Guza has been trying to undo them for years and it was Guza who broke them up and headed for divorce, made Luke a adrenaline junkie and something of a wastrel. Luke was always a hard worker, a good father to Lucky, a loving, faithful husband who had a checkered background, but good instincts. A law unto himself, yes, but not this alcoholic sponger we see now.. The current Luke is Guza's version. All he did to Laura was love her beyond anything. GHFan

There were a lot of contributing factors in the breakdown, which started before Rick was killed. She really started breaking down when she started remembering the death of the nurse that Rick was having the affair with, whom she supposedly killed in a fit of rage & Rick covered it up. According to the 'new' history, Laura killed Rick during her psychotic break, thinking that he was coming at her to kill her, not to inject her w/a tranquilizer. But I've always felt that Laura's WHOLE history (not just her history w/Luke or Scotty) was behind the original breakdown. But then, that whole storyline sucked. eom

Laura isn't on the show anymore. She's in a catatonic state in a mental institution.

Luke and Laura are no longer married. Laura had a brief recovery about a year ago, during which time Luke faked a remarriage ceremony to make her happy. But unbeknownst to Laura, he was married to Tracy Quartermaine at the time, and he still is.

They have two kids -- Lucky and Lulu. Laura also has a third son, Nik, from the time when Stavros Cassadine raped her while holding her in captivity.

It is heartbreaking--especially when TPTB got several petitions from avid fans of Genie to get her back on the show and they ignored them. Evidently TPTB do not want her back which is very puzzling, given that the ratings are going down down and viewers are really tired of the mob status quo. I handle it by telling myself Luke tricked Tracy into a FAKE marriage in Vegas, and therefore his so called pretend wedding to Laura a year ago was the real one and they are still married. The thought comforts me when Luke is acting all out of character. GHFan
