Subject: I still think Noah proclaiming that Patrick WILL be a bad father just because he was one is out of line. Does this mean that Patrick has no capacity for change? Isn't that shortchanging him? Patrick has changed since he first came on the show. Also, even if Patrick is destined to be a bad father, he should be given a chance to prove otherwise. As for my post, I am only talking about the show and it IS repititive and boring to have the same conversation every single day. ladfan

Subject: It isn't that Patrick is totally incapable of being a good father or of overcoming his history, but it is very difficult to make those changes. Patrick went, overnight, from wanting to NEVER being a father to embracing the concept. I also disagree w/Robin, but I can also see her point. The only role model for male parenting that Patrick had was Noah. I would have serious reservations, even w/the greatest intentions, that he could overcome that history. I had a self-proclaimed 'lousy father', but I was fortunate to have a grandfather who was leaps & bounds better than anything my own father could have offered. Frankly, I saw spending time w/my father as a waste of time, parent wise. But he also came from a situation where his father wasn't present & when he was he was hen-pecked & demeaned by my grandmother. He also died when my father was a teenager. For a variety of reasons, my father became a chronic alcoholic & was never a 'dad'. So I can see Noah's p.o.v. as well. eom
