Additional Comments: We tried to tell TPTB but they did not listen. Go to the url address at the bottom for the whole article. I would try and find a way to bring back GL.
"Deal" is drawing a few more viewers than "GL" overall, up 7 percent in overall households (1.6/5) vs. the soap's 2008-09 average (1.5/5).
But it looks like most of those extra viewers are older. In the key daytime demographics of women 18-49 (0.7/4) and 25-54 (0.8/5), "Deal" is down 13 percent and 20 percent, respectively, compared with the "GL" average. The gameshow is flat vs. "GL" with women 18-34.

Message:
LMAD can be considered a success, because financially it's like an hour-long infommercial showcasing the products they're giving away. Imagine Reva walking around the Springfield minimart talking about Pringles and Charmin for an hour, then giving them away to ordinary people who come in off the street. If that was GL, then you could compare the two shows. It's all about revenue stream.

Message: It's sort of stupid, if one thinks about it. They canned GL in part because the viewers it attracted were not of that all important youth demographic. So, what do they do? They replace it with a remake of a game show that's destined to attract those same viewers. Think about it. The original "Let's Make a Deal" went off the air in the '70s! Most viewers under 30 have no interest in watching because they never even saw the original because they were too young to have seen it. (I'm in my late 40s, and I barely remember it.) The only people who are really going to have any interest are those my age and older, who remember the original and want to see how they've redone it. But its not the kind of thing Generations X and Y have any interest in.

Message: LMAD hasn't backfired at all. It's ratings are static with GL's season averages but that show is FAR cheaper to produce. CBS is making money on it, which is something GL couldn't do anymore. There is no way CBS would ever bring GL back, especially now that all the sets and costumes are gone. The costs of re-starting the show back up would be astronomical and for what? Just so they could snag ratings just as low as LMAD's?

Message: I doubt any of this matters. They were just looking for a cheaper space-filler, and they got one with this crapfest.

Message: These ratings are for a show that is only a couple of weeks into its run. There is a curiosity factor working to give them fairly decent numbers. However, I do feel that this is not a show that will have legs and CBS will eventually drop it and put either some talk show in its place or give it back to the local stations for syndicated programming. This is not a show that attracts both a college age audience and an older audience like TPIR. And, Wayne Brady is not Bob Barker or even Drew Carey. He is a great comedian but he is not a good game show host.
I give it 2 seasons. I would give it one season but CBS will hang in there just to avoid the ''I-told-you-so'' moment.

Message: Even a game show needs time to build their audience! It also isn't just a matter of ratings--game shows & talk shows are cheaper to produce than soap operas. They don't have to bring in huge numbers to be considered successful.
