Additional Comments: Everyone seems a little bewildered about, and at Guiding Light's new Town. It seem like no one there has ever worked on a TV or Movie that was shot outdoor on location. I mean this is NOT a new medium technology!! BBC's favorite Soap, Eastenders, has been shooting outdoors and natural light interiors on their Town set (Albert Square) without these wierd camera angles, extreeem close-ups, and sound problems, for almost 20 years!! It's the 21st Century for petes sake. As for the less than stellar storylines, well it's hard to pay attention to ANYTHING when the view is from behind a tree or through the slats on a chairback!! my favorite was from inside the cornucopia, through the artichokes, on Buzzs' countertop. I stoll love my GL, and loyal fans may be our only hope of salvation..

American soaps have been doing location shoots since the late 70's/early 80's. GH was the first & everyone else followed. They all but stopped doing them in the early 90's, because the Suits sighted cost overruns/budget 'concerns' as their issues w/the practice. Now, suddenly, the same Corp. brain trust that said that 15+ yrs ago, now sees it as being 'cheaper' than working in a more controlled, studio environment!
Whether they use bulky studio cameras or handheld, digital cameras, when the bones of a story aren't good & there is a weakness w/the basics distracting camera angles & new 'toys' aren't going to override the problems. They are only going to enhance them!
More than one soap opera reporter has pointed out/mentioned that it is more costly to do location shoots the way GL is doing them, than to do studio work. From a production standpoint, ICAM. More than one soap reporter has also said that they would much rather see the $$ P&G is spending on the bells & whistles being spent on keeping vets.
