I think Alan's death felt like the REAL end of the show for me because without Alan Spaulding, there really couldn't be a Springfield. I hate how they wrote him as a one-dimensional mustache-twirler in the past few years but it was a tribute to Ron Raines' talent that there was still something about him that you wanted to like, no matter how villainous he became.
My favorite "recent" Alan moment was a couple of years ago at Christmas when the whole episode was devoted to him. He kept trying to have the big family Thanksgiving or Christmas dinner but none of the family would come and he ended up all alone eating with the servants. It was both funny and poignant.
I'll miss Ron Raines and Alan.
