Yand R used to be great a long time ago, but lately it has really fallen down in the writing department.  Some of the stories are so outrageous.  I stopped watching soaps several years ago because of bad writing, ludicrus storylines, bad acting and un-rootable characters.  GL was my favorite soap.  I remember once we were moving from Omaha, NE and needed to be on the road early, but a storyline was coming to an end and was so captivating, I couldn't miss it.  This was the days before vcr's.  My hubby, sweet man, waited till GL was over, late in the afternoon to leave, just so I could see it.  I miss those days of stories that kept you on the edge of your seat, breathless with anticipation for the next day to see what would happen!
