Additional Comments: My husband has decided to invite some old college buddies over for the 4th and we simply do not grill. Anyone have any suggestions? There is a local BBQ that is popular and I've reserved an order of meat. I thought if we have cheap wine and expensive beer, everyone will be happy. Does anyone think I should have anything else? We have a nice patio. Thanks.

I'd throw in some chips and maybe warm up some baked beans.

And ya gotta have dessert, even if it's just watermelon or popsicles. For guys, I'd probably buy a cake mix and make a sheet cake in a 9 x 13 pan and use the icing in the tub.

  • Thanks. I am adding more stuff. Hadn't thought of watermelon. Great idea. Awfully hot in Texas right now and that sounds like it would hit the spot.

You dont grill?? How can anyone NOT grill. Seriously we grill everything meat, taters, veggies even some desserts. Rain, Snow, Summer, Winter all yr round we have 2 grills going. Charcoal for the meat, Gas for the other stuff.
Potato Salad is staple for the 4th. If you dont want to make your own you can always get it from the deli and dr.it up a bit by adding chopped onions, celery, dill, more seasonings whatever.
Im a bean snob and make them from scratch, but you can do the old pork n beans from a can add onions, bacon, molasses, ketchup and brown sugar.
There are gadzillion great pasta salad and macaroni salad recipes.
Corn on the cob is easy to make in large quanities.
FoodTV.com has a ton of great recipes and a July 4th section. I also like Cyber-Kitchen.com for recipes.

We always have a big party on the 4th. 20 invited and more drops in. We generally have anywhere from 25-40 people show up. We meet at our house for Bloody Mary's and Mimosas at 11-1130 am, walk downtown (5-6 blocks) to the parade. Then back to our house for food, drink and merriment. Everyone brings a covered dish, but I make alot of stuff. Always grilled burgers and brats. I kinda like to WOW people when I have them over for dinner and have something different. I havent quit decided yet what else Im making. Id better check out those websites and get hopping!
The best thing is just having fun with family and friends. The beer and wine will certainly help with that and BarBeQue sounds wonderful!

  • Wow! Great tips about the websites. I'll take a look. Just not a cook and love everything to be easy. Want to concentrate on my other strengths such as decorating and being witty. Ha! Thanks for the advice. (Rachel)
