Jeepers, it's quiet around here! What's everyone up to?
We're getting ready for Thanksgiving next week - no big plans, just the three of us and a quiet dinner at home, watching the Macy's Parade, and starting on our holiday decorating.
What's new with you?

I'm still around but busy as ever. Alexis is enjoying Pre-K and is learning to write her name. Shes got it all but the letter X which is giving her problems, go figure. She loves going to her big school as she calls it. Heather is doing well too. I moved them both to a different daycare as the other one went uniform. That wasn't really the breaker. That came the day they told me that Alexis was the only child there that had afternoon Pre-k and therefore would be required to wear a uniform as well. I asked how long I had to get her uniform and they said they would give me the rest of this week and next, so I said out loud, ah so basically I have 2 weeks to find another daycare and walked off. They tired to be helpful like suggesting that Alexis could be a helper in the 2yr old room and then wouldn't have to wear a uniform, I looked at the director like she was F'ing nuts and said NO.
It was the best thing they could have done for me, course they were cheap and now I'm paying more but its worth it. I found a smaller daycare, in a better neighbourhood, and right in between Alexis's preschool and Kindergarden school.
We arn't doing much for Thanksgiving, just a Ham. Turkey will be for xmas. I have now bought all the gifts for xmas, Daryl gets the happy duty of putting them together. He also has to put the lights up outside the house this year. He hates doing that kinda thing but I want christmas to be special for the girls each year. I still remember how special Mom and Dad made it for me. On a sad note it would have been my Dads 82 birthday on November 2nd and so I spent a quiet and tearful evening thinking about him. My Mom is doing alright at the care home. I'll be sending some kind of xmasy flower arrangement to her. Its their wedding anniversary on Dec 19 and I havn't decided on if I'm saying anything to her or just leaving it as merry xmas.
Daryl is working at Best Buy in the Geek squad so he will be busy working black friday. I have that day off and I'm not sure what I'll be doing. Satying home for sure, I hate shopping on this day or on boxing day in Canada for that matter.
I started decorating for xmas by putting my wreath on the door, Alexis thought Santa was coming that night lol. He will be coming to her school on Dec 2 and I asked her if she would sit on his knee and she said yes but I'm sure she won't when she sees how big he is. =)
Gearing up for Thanksgiving at the lake. Hard to believe that last Thanksgiving was our first weekend at our lake house! We had such a great year and so far, it's been a great "magnet" for our family.
We aren't going to be traveling for any of the holidays this year since our son's job requires him to work Thanksgiving day from 4 til midnight, christmas eve until midnight and New Year's day. (everyone has to take a shift on the holidays -- it's a 24/7 hotline) We just don't want to leave him alone for any holiday. Since he's living at the lake house and working 45 minutes away, we'll just have to stay there (tough life) So our oldest is coming with her family for Thanksgiving. Can't wait to see the grandchildren again. We saw them about a month ago when we went up there. Found out the baby due in March is a boy, which, I think is what they were hoping for. They have one of each, but the younger is the boy, so he and the baby will be closer in age when they share a room. Once the baby comes, it'll be a while before they make the 8 hour drive to Virginia so we're going to enjoy this visit.
We had a couple of road trips recently --- one to Ohio, as mentioned, to help with the kids while our son-in-law was away for the week. Then we took a trip down to Savannah, GA to visit some cousins of my husband's. They were having a kick off fund raiser for ovarian cancer and we decided to go down and be a part of it. They, in turn, opened up their beach house on Tybee Island for us. Right on the tidal creek....beautiful! Then we drove up to NJ/CT to visit Mr.Q's cousin in Middlebury, CT, his sister in North Jersey and then to surprise my sister for her 60th birthday celebration. We put a lot of miles on our car this month!
Christmas will be at the lake house and our middle child (old timers will remember Jam) is coming out from Colorado with her boyfriend. Usually our son's girlfriend joins us at some point over the holiday, too.
Things'll be quiet until the baby is born at the end of March. We'll go up for that (I think she's getting induced) and then we go back to take care of the baby so they can go to a family wedding in mid-April. We have a wedding in June in CA and another two weeks later out near Asheville. Can't believe I'm planning my life 7 months from now!
I'm mostly lurking these days. Not much to say. It's been busy with various parties of various sizes. December's looking to be very busy, thank goodness. 2009 has been an over-all slow year, but that was expected with the economy the way it's been. It seems the recession hit here in late spring and early summer, compared to last fall everywhere else. All of a sudden everything stopped and was slow for most of the summer and just recently started getting better.
I was reminded yesterday looking at my desk calender, that it's been 2 months since Guiding Light went off the air. Hard to beleive. It lingered on the back burner of the life the past few years, but was always there. Now that it's not, I do miss it. I'm looking forward to the new online shows like 'Venice' to see some familiar faces.
