Yep, my crappy luck as of late has gotten worse...

Emily and I were in a car accident Saturday.  It was my fault.  We drove down to my parents to go to the dance store for white tap shoes (nobody around here carries them).  So I stopped to get gas, and decided to make a left, because for once the road wasn't busy.  Nobody was coming except for a PT Cruiser, which I thought I cleared.  Well, she switched lanes right when I pulled out, and I clipped her front end near the wheel.  She was going pretty fast because the impact whipped my car around in the opposite direction and tore off my front end.  We just paid our last payment on the car on Thursday.

The worst part of it was hearing Emily scream, and the sound of the cars hitting...it's not a sound I'll soon forget.  She is totally and completely uninjured, since she was on the opposite side of the car.  I however am very sore.  I banged my head and my shoulder on the door.  Luckily the airbags didn't deploy, or my glasses would be broken too.

All I can think about is that I could have killed someone, myself, or my daughter.  I didn't sleep at all last night, and I don't think I will today.  I also am scared about calling tomorrow to find out the fine, and trying to figure out how we're going to pay two insurance deductables, and know that my insurance is going to go up...I seriously think I'm going to have to get a job.

So far, 2008 is so totally not my year...

Well, now...you have to be a Pollyanna about this. Yes, you had an accident, but hey,

You didn't get hurt, everyone survived --- and that's GOOD. So maybe really, your luck is improving, huh?

I can identify with you. Last year after my husband had survived a brain hemorrhage and stroke, and brain surgery, I almost killed him pulling into the pharmacy parking lot. I, too, took a left turn across traffic.  Two cars in the two lanes stopped and waved me on so I went--not knowing some EVIL person was sneaking up on the shoulder to get into a turn lane. She T-boned me at around 35 MPH. But she did have the right of way and I was at fault.  I had to pay to repair my car, the car my car got shoved into AND her car.  The whole bill...no deductibles or anything. I was afraid my insurance company was going to drop me, but they just raised my rates. I had been with them over over 35 years with no accidents.

But like I said, we were both fine (I was stiff for about a week because I braced when I saw the car coming).  That's good luck, I say!

  • That stinks they raised your rates! They told me mine won't change, since I never had an accident before, our policy has first time accident forgiveness. Whew!! I'm feeling a little calmer now, so I just have to concentrate on Emily now. She's not having any kind of problems at all, it's like she forgot it even happened. :) Thanks for your kind words and concern! Sandigal

So sorry to hear about all your bad luck, just glad you and Emmy are OK. I never heard of paying the other persons deductible either. Your luck is bound to change soon for the better.

  • Thanks, Yuk. It actually worked out that our deductable will be taken right out of the check we get for my car...they decided to total it. And we don't have to pay their deductable after all. I also have first-accident forgiveness, so our rate will not go up...whew!! So now we're car shopping. So much for saving for my van! Hubby doesn't want to pay for gas prices for a van, and he wants a vehicle that will keep our payment under 200 a month...so we're looking at some sort of used sedan. Sandigal

You poor dear! An accident is so frightening. Glad to know you weren't hurt seriously. Why are you paying two deductables? I never heard of that. Here in Michigan we have no fault. Each person goes their own way and their own insurance covers it. Things will all work out for you..don't panic.

  • Unfortunatly, in Ohio, I was at fault, so our insurance pays and we pay their deductable too. My fine is a LOT lower than I thought it would be, so that at least is a relief! Thanks for your kind words, I have this complex that everyone will treat me like I have the plague because I was at fault. But accidents happen, and I will be MUCH more careful in the future!!!
