I DON'T condone Todd beating the crap out of Cole, but I have to agree with Todd about Cole's intentions. Todd is behaving the way a father should. Cole doesn't have Starr's interests at heart. Where is Starr going to have the baby, on a sidewalk somewhere? This seems to be all right with Cole.
I loved Blair's comment to Todd today that, "You make everybody nervous" when Todd said Langston was a weird kid.
I just like Starr, but don't like Cole. The couple doesn't have "true love" chemistry for me. It's not believable that they love each other. Cole just seems aloof.

Here is my problem with Todd's attitude toward Cole. From Day 1 it was a huge SPD. Cole taking steroids and getting all road-ragey on Starr was a SPD. I can understand Todd's dislike of Cole after Cole frightened Starr. That's how a father would act. But even before that, Todd disliked Marty (who had come back to Llanview to testify FOR Todd during the Margaret murder trial), which made no sense and disliked her "spawn" because he was her child. If anything, I would see Todd acting like the Todd before Ireland toward Marty. But no, he hated her and distrusted her, and by association, hated and distrusted Cole. SPD.
Then Todd actually relented and he acted as most fathers would until he walked in on Starr and Cole. I understand his reaction to seeing his beloved daughter in bed with Cole; I understand punching him - once. Beating the crap out of Cole, while not the worst thing Todd has ever done - was over the top. And ever since then Todd has been way over the top. I feel it is an incredibly SPD that Todd refuses to listen to everyone as they tell him Cole did not attempt to rape Starr. He can still hate the kid for sleeping with his daughter. The writers don't need to manufacture this over-the-top "he raped her" angle. And it also annoys the stuffing out of me that no one - not Blair, or Viki, or Dorian - is getting in his face about his abusive treatment of Starr and the manhandling of Langston. SPD all the way.
Todd getting upset that Cole and Starr ran away is understandable. But why does he need to say Cole kidnapped Starr? Why not just be mad that they ran away? I'm okay with Todd transferring his anger at himself onto Cole, but that's what it should be. That Todd has some inner awareness that he, not Cole, created this situation by his treatment of Starr. That's typical Todd. But I'm sick to death of listening to Todd say such blatantly stupid things. Todd was never this self-deluded.
Now, as for Cole and Starr, I'm not feeling the star-crossed lovers thing. Never have. Cole is a dullard (thanks to whoever first coined that term). I do think the character is viable as the child of a former major character. It's the actor that just doesn't click. He does seem aloof. Where's the passion? Where's the teenage recklessness and desperation when faced with losing the girl he loves? I'm not seeing it, and worse, I'm just not feeling it.
And may I just add here that if the writers make Starr do something as stupid as use her ATM card or Visa to pay for anything - and that being the way Todd finds them - I will scream! Starr is so more savvy about these things than Cole Thornhardt ever would be. What happened to the Starr of old? Why did she have to stop having a brain and being one tough, little cookie - the true daughter of Todd Manning and Blair Cramer - just to make this romance (blech!) work?

Other than the violent behavior he exhibited (although, that is Todd's nature), I can understand Todd being upset. The other problem I have with this story is the lack of chemistry between the "lovebirds."
