I don't believe it:

This same message was posted for As The World Turns as well.
I agree it is a gimmick. It shows up from time to time on various websites encouraging people to 'vote' on things. These votes mean nothing and usually try to get you to sign up for stuff.
One day on TV Guide Online, there was an 'article' next to an article on CSI Miami saying "Should CSI Miami be cancelled?". Whomever sponsors these ads did the same thing with a hit show asking if it should be cancelled.
Most websites will make it clear what is an Ad and what isn't. Sometimes the line is blurred and sometimes it is downright annoying (like the one that appeared on mediadomain for a while which caused my speakers to repeatedly beep).
I think it is just a gimmick. I saw the same thing about AMC. Did you bother to go into the page that follows the vote--the one assuring you you had won a Wal-Mart gift card? I did, just to see what it is about and there are about 30 more surveys that follow. You can skip them all, which I did, but in the end, if you don't just X out of it, your name and e-mail address are going to be all over every junk e-mail list in the country. I don't believe for one minute that everyone who completes the survey is going to be a prize recipient (maybe a prize chump).
Anyway, that's my take on it.
