I turned it off once I realized that I would be seeing the same old 1968 episode ... where Emma confronts Asa.  Was anyone else disappointed?

Well I didn't have a choice - my local ABC affiliate played the annual Jerry's Kids Telethon (I can't remember its official name). There's always a chance that local programming will do something different or special on a holiday, which is why the soaps air repeat episodes on those days.

Granted, it would be so much more interesting if the repeats were classic episodes that haven't been seen in a long time. However, I think the repeats are picked to review for the audience what tptb see as current important plot points. It just fits in with which characters and stories they're trying to push right now.

Showing old episodes has become standard for ABC on holidays.  Their apathy is showing.  Most soaps don't produce date specific episodes anymore, which does take away from the sense of community & family.  No more big community gatherings w/flashbacks or taking a day to set aside differences.

However, I would much prefer old episodes to substituting some sports event for the day or week, as CBS does.  Either way, it breaks the flow of whatever weak storyline is being told at the moment.

I predicted they would show a repeat, but disappointed it was such a recent (and stupid) episode. I watched an old movie instead.
