Topic: How Many Of You Do Not Like How Starrs Pregnancy Story Is Going?

Additional Comments: I have no idea how the pregnancy storyline is going to turn out, but,the spoilers were wrong when they hinted that Starr would loose the baby in a fall.I dont see how the writers canleave Starr pregnant and raise this child when she is so very immature, not to mention Cole, who is totally clueless, bullheaded, and more immature than Starr.I hope at least they give the child up for adoption, to a couple who can handle and are more equipped to raise an infant.Possibly Marcie and Michael.I cant see this storyline ending up well for anyone. Any thoughts?

I'll bet it WILL go in that direction. I DID wonder what would happen if Starr is REALLY PREGNANT, DOESN'T have the abortion and carries the baby to term. I CERTAINLY assumed taht when she FELL, she'd have lost the baby. But NOW, it looks like she' s going to have it. Blair is encouraging her. COle is encouraging her. And TOdd won't have any say in it. BUT she and COle are TOO YOUNG to raise a baby obviously. So, I'll bet Blair will AUTHORIZE for Marcy and Michael to adopt the baby. Wasn't there that one scene where Michael came home and shared with Marcie that he treated this teenage girl who had a baby. ANd they both reflected how it is that SOME BABYS are born to people who CAN'T care for them. But THEY CAN"T have a baby. THEN they jumped to Starr's situation where she knew she couldn't actually raise a baby? Isn't that kind of like that LIFETIME Movie, Mom at Sixteen. That high school girl has her mom raising her baby along with her two daughters. Then she meets that teacher who CANNOT have a baby. ANd they decide that her teacher should adopt her baby and everything's cool at the end of the movie.

I honestly think they are doing a pretty good job with this sl. So what it is a PSA and a PSA that needs to be announced over and over and over and over again, because kids are not getting it. Personally, I am beginning to believe that it is longtime viewers and the internet that are and will continue to be the demise of soaps.

I loved DOOL and Santa Barbara back in the eighties, at the height of soap opera fanaticism, as many of you did, GH and OLTL. The sl's were just as cheesy and I guarantee we could have found more inaccuracies in the writing, in comparison to reality, than we do now. But, hey, they were are shows and we loved them with out reading every other cynic's pov, ya know?

The reason I watch OLTL and GH, as opposed to DOOL, is because I don't know the history and I'm not attached to the characters and what they should be doing or how they should be acting. It's not too bad if you watch it as an outsider....really, lol.

Originally I thought she was going to suffer a miscarriage in a car accident.  Then the dullard sold his car so he would have money for the stuffed animals and flowers.  I don't care how cliched it might be, I was okay with the falling down the stairs losing the baby scenario.

I don't see any good that is going to come from this, including the PSA which, unless it is meant to convey that very smart girls whose parents adore them can get involved with someone who rides the short bus and devolve to his single digit IQ.  Iloveyousomuchthisisarecording.  (Sorry, I know I've commented on that before but everytime there is supposed to some major emotional moment between these two, the troll expresses his love with all the emotion you might have while picking lint from your navel.)

  • sea, I'm with you about Starr miscarrying the baby. I don't care how it happens, or how cliched it is, just so it happens. Separate Starr from BB's dullard Cole, and get her back to being the interesting, dynamic kid she used to be back in the day. Wanda Wolek
  • I think maybe it was rewritten when they got SH to come & play Marty...G
  • Why does SH coming back as Marty mean that Starr has to be saddled with a baby? And with Cole? Can I at least hope that Marty will show up soon to give SH some meaty scenes ripping Todd a new one and then Starr miscarries? Please, please, please???? Wanda
  • I know they rewrite things all the time because of different actors, but this storyline would have fit with that last insipid version of Marty. Susan Haskell portrayed Marty as a pillar of strength in light of much adversity. She would never have had Cole as a child. Did I ever mention that I hate him? eom/sea
  • Wanda, The reason I think they are delaying the miscarriage thing is because before the strike it looked like RC was going more for the Langston/Cole/Starr angle. Then GT came in & all of the Langston/Cole bonding ended & Starr wound up pregnant. I don't think RC ever intended for this to happen but now that they have SH coming back he's stretching the story instead of dumping it. JMO..G

Oh please. This sl is being played out like some old time melodrama with the star-crossed young couple being chased by the evil villain. All thats missing is having Star tied to the railway tracks with Todd in a black handlebar mustache muttering"curses"each time his evil plan is foiled. What a wasted opportunity for what could have been an informative sl showing the problems created for everyone with a teen pregnancy.Instead we get this farce that would be comical if it weren't so pathetic.

I don't like this story for a couple of reasons.

One: Starr once was too smart and dynamic a character to have an accidental pregnancy.  This whole SL dumbs her down and I don't like it at all.

Two: I swear Gary Tomlin is writing Todd's part in this mess because there is no way that Todd would have waited to get in one more punch on Cole before rushing to Starr's side.  Todd would not be so clueless to what he did, so brainless as to say, "she'll be fine" like a child who, by wishing and saying it is so, makes it happen.  Todd would have rushed to Starr's side.  He would have been screaming for someone to call an ambulance.  He would have been pacing the corridors of the hospital like a wounded animal.  This can't all be laid at TSJ's door.  The writers write the dialogue, and the director tells the actor what to do.  For some reason, OLTL wants Todd to be a violent, cruel child-man who doesn't realize or appreciate the consequences of his actions.  I find this such a poor choice in characterization that I can't even hate Todd.  I just find him boring.

  • Oh, and I'm still waiting for Starr to miscarry so she can turn into a vengeful Valkyrie and go after Todd. Wanda
  • I agree - this is not even a shadow of how Todd should behave - Starr was always his #1 and everything about this is hollow and phony. He wouldn't have flung her down the stairs, he wouldn't have watched so detachedly as she fell, he wouldn't have sat watching Blair comfort her muttering 'she'll be okay'. It's beyond stupid. And Blair is only a little better; her mama fury should have been at its height toward Todd - either screeching at him to get away, or completely shutting him out. In some scenes, you'd think she hadn't even witnessed the fall. Slightly off topic - wasn't it funny how Cole seemed to hide behind Starr while Todd was chasing them? He should have come between them, if he's any sort of a man-boy. stupid all around. -gg
  • Its as though the writer has painted himself into a corner. Either Starr miscarries or she and Cole live in some dump until Todd and Blair buy them a house and then they go to night school and get their GED. Its too depressing to think about. And I only saw that one PSA by Starr so I dont know how much the sl has impinged on the audience, if at all. I had envisioned Starr to graduate from high school go onto colleg make some important discovery, etc. Gee-the kind of things we hope for our own offspring. Not dirty rooms with gray sheets and McJobs/ladyhey
  • I really can spell college
  • Sure, Todd loves Starr but he gets consumed with rage and everything else takes a back seat. Todd has always been that way.
  • tallk, I believe that Todd would pull Starr out of the way to get to Cole. I believe he didn't realize there were stairs there. But that's where my believing stops. As gg said, Starr has always been Todd's #1. What has been Todd's ''saving grace'' if you will is his love for his children. (Soaps use this a lot with unlikeable characters.) No matter how filled with fury Todd was, Starr tumbling down the stairs should have been a hit of cold water in his face. Later, after he knew she was okay the fury could return. That I would believe. But not the way those scenes played out. Wanda

Is this even a SL? Starr's pregnancy just seems like a PSA or an after-school special that has been stretched out for weeks-too long.

Yes, I think the Abstinence Only lobby(aka Disney&Friends) wanted to make an unplanned pregnancy story so scary for young people, starting with the HORROR of a possible Abortion, rite up to now with family(Crazy Dad)and soon Society chimeing(sp) in, now that the secret's out, to add more fear and guilt and say "We told you so..".
